I would like info on what would be taught for the following course titles at Level 7 & higher:
* Social Studies
* History
* Homeroom
Would history be mainly that of NZ or World history, and is homeroom an actual class? - Cheers

Hello .. I think I know some of the answers to these questions since I am in the second to last year of highschool in NZ.

Every different school has different subjects so you should choose a school wisely. Social studies is studied and most of it is about international social studies not New Zealand. History is also about foriegn countrys ww1, ww2, black civil rights, vietnam ect.. So you wont be bored with New Zealand topics .. which noone here likes anyhow.

We dont have homeroom instead we call it Formtime. You get assigned to a formclass where you will meet for the first 20-30 min of each day.

Other subjects on offer in New Zealand differ but here a few at my school.

*Economics *Print and web design *English * Three different maths * Three different sciences e.g biology * Japanese *French * Classics * German * Home economics * Food technology * Music * Physical education * Religous education * Geography * Information management * Tourism * The list goes on...

Expand your question if you want any more advice!

Good luck!

You would have to get in contact with the school you are planning to attend. Schools in NZ vary, as in a lot of countries, from top notch to average. Some schools offer better courses, have better facilities and a better attitude! My school, being private and based on the English (as in from England) system meant our history subjects were Anglo-based. Public schools pay more attention to NZ history from what I understand. If you are going to Auckland, the 'Metro' magazine did a review on the best schools in Akl, in July or August this year I think. Good article and gives you an overview of the education system and all it's idiosyncracies. And homeroom isn't a subject in NZ, I think as you get into the last 2 years of high school you get 'study periods'. Social studies is a precursor for Geography, which I thought personally was great fun (we are going back 14 years here though!!!) Good luck, as I said, choose a school if you haven't already and I am sure they'll have a website.

history classes...they generally cover the big turns that shaped NZ but majority is world history, re: what shaped our world, turns of the centuries etc

Homeroom a.k.a formtime is a class, where you just check in and mess around for a bit before study period.
