Well as you know BB, not being a fellow American .... but in 2007 we stayed at the Vincci Avalon, 16 E 32nd St, New York, NY 10116. We booked it through Expedia as it had good cost and service ratings from other people. No complaints really except they don't provide a kettle for a hot cup of tea and that keeps the Brits alive! But we did find, virtually right opposite the most fantastic corner store where we could get mega cups of steaming tea! And we walked everywhere. Have to say, being a Brit in NYC can be intimidating by itself, especially after dark but we never had one moments concern and the police do have a zero tolerance policy there and sad to say they weren't very friendly either. Oh one last thing ... the hotel never charged us for the 'pay per view' adult movies on the TV ... good thing because I only strayed onto them by sheer accident ,,,, anyway the plots were crap!

I stayed at Hotel Edison which is on 47th / Broadway. It's a great location (just off Times Square) and was reasonably priced.

We stayed at Bedford Hotel; quite reasonable in price and clean. It´s very near Central Station. You can check prices, map etc in the Internet. We did so before going there.

It doesnt sound great, but let me sell it to you before I tell you what its name is.

First of picture this:
2 minute walk from Time Square
Very cheap
Beds changed everyday
You feel safe
Loads of travellers
Bath and shower
Good location!

You ready - Motel 8, but it is more like a hotel, you need to experience this!

the waldorf actually has a floor of small rooms with only double beds that are much cheaper than its regular rates. you can call and ask about these rooms. that way you can say you stayed at the waldorf, but you'd get a good deal.
