My family is having a really bad time stationed in Germany. No friends, no to show us "the ropes". No one talks to us unless they are yelling at us. Its not like this my first station its my 4th and we can not get a break. Please tell me something good about this place. Thanks.

It sounds like you are in a crappy unit. We are in Germany and my husband's unit is crappy now, but it wasn't when we got here. However our sponsor sucked. Did you not get a sponsor? If so I guess you got a sucky one like we did. It really is a beautiful country here, that's one good thing, and there's lots to do. Just be out and about in the community and you'll meet people and eventually develop friendships. Don't think you only have to hang out with people from your unit, I can't stand most of the people from my husband's unit, so most of my friends are from other units. I've met a lot of people from having my daughter enrolled in dance and other activities. That's not why I enrolled her in those, but by doing that I ended up meeting people with similar interests and children who are close in age to my daughter. You don't say where you are stationed. We are in the Heidelberg/Mannheim area. You can contact me if you have any questions you think I might be able to answer. Good Luck. I was miserable here at first but grew to love it here, hope you do too.

I was in Germany 2 1/2 years ago and I found the Germans I dealt with friendly and helpful. I was in Ulm. It does help to know some of the language or able to make an attempt at it. Many European countries do resent Americans and British who make no attempt to learn their language.

Are you in Baumholder? That sounds like what happened right after we got here, too. It was horrible. This is our second duty station, so at least we know the military isn't always like this.
Now we're used to it.
It's a beautiful country, there's a lot to see, and they have awesome food and beer. Oooh, and their wine too!
Tell your wife to feel free to IM me. I'm almost always online, and I know how it is here, especially when you first get here!
Everyone says it's a different Army out here...and it's true!

Huh, sorry to hear that. Try going out in civilian clothes and see what the reaction is.
