Ooh, yummy!
They are both sandwich (or toast) spreads.
VEGEMITE is Australian and MARMITE is British. I think you have to be raised on it in order to like it. Once you reach teenage years without having tasted it, all is lost!
It is very salty and strong-tasting and you only need a little to get the flavor burst! As others have said, it's made from Yeast Extract so it's a good souce of vitamins. I particularly like marmite when it's on a snack food called TWIGLETS. Sadly, I live in the States now so only get my Twiglets fix when I go home to England to visit. Marmite is available in the supermarkets here though - thank goodness!

Marmite is Mmmmmmmmmmmm! You either love it or hate it. That's how they advertise it over here in Britain! They show people eating with with disgust....it's a yeast extract so fine for vegetarians. It's black, treacle consistency, smells lovely and tastes STRONG! So you don't need much on your toast.
A favourite is peanut butter and marmite sandwiches.
You must try to get some...you'll be hooked!

It's a biproduct of beer. It's basically the leftover sludge at the bottom of the vat which consists of hops and brewers yeast...I'm serious! It's very popular in Austrailia and England, and its usually mixed with butter. It has a very strong and distinct flavor. The add campaign for it states that you either love it or hate it. Believe it or not it's actually very good for you and it's high in vitamins and minerals.

I think it's fermented yeast. It's black and nasty. I would compare it to the Ausi version of mustard!
