I hear that U.S. population reached 300 millions. Why are we keep allowing people to immigrate to US? Isn't it a time to stop legal and illegal immigration altogether? Or at least put a measure so that if x number of US citizens immigrate to a country, then we only allow x number of people from that country to immigrate to US.

Negative impacts of mass migration aren't treated fairly in the media and elsewhere. A plethora of special interests promote mass migration through various techniques designed to emphasize only the benefits. Far too frequently the costs and consequences of mass migration are never mentioned.
Because of political correctness, a form of bias, writers distort the truth by promoting their agenda, typically liberal, and by avoiding objective reporting. For example, newspaper writers (using 'journalists' usually is a stretch when it comes to immigration) overdose the columns with immigrant and illegal alien 'heart-breakers.'

Politicians likewise distort the truth (like this is a revelation) to pander for ethnic votes.

Race-biased groups, under the veil of 'immigrant rights,' distort the truth to gain advantages for their special interest group

Immigrant / Illegal Alien Glorification. Mass migration proponents extol the virtues of immigrants and illegal aliens with glowing characterizations such as "hardworking."

Counter:point: Immigration glorification needs a reality check! There are plenty of lazy immigrants and illegal aliens. Our jails are over-flowing with immigrants and illegal aliens. Lower their glorification to the reality that foreign-born persons are neither inherently good nor inherently bad. Making generalizations is generally inaccurate and the issue is mass numbers.

I agree.

The ignorance in some of these answers but anyways...As it stands the process to emmigrate to the US is very tedious and it can take YEARS to actually complete. There is no number set for the number of people that the government allows to come into the US, but you do have to go through the process. A relative of mine is currently going through the process which just involves making sure that they are going to be productive to the society. The family has had to vouch for him financially by showing our income statements so that the government is aware that he will be provided for until he can stand on his own two feet.

For those of you saying to stop immigration just a word to the wise. This country WAS BUILT BY IMMIGRANTS, unless you're a Native American. Everyone else, some where down the line, came over on a boat.

you probably don't know that America pretty much is the only country in the world what has balanced demographic. Which means we have balance between number of old, young and middle aged. Do you know why? cause we have immigrants. Look at Japan, and all of Europe, they are dieing from old age and no babies. Only countries that have immigration will make it. It is too late for some of them. In Japan population is too old to have a lot of babies, France realized what's happening and now has limited immigration. America survives because of immigrants for so many years, so why change it?

Two reasons - first, if we stopped immigration, other countries would stop emmigration. We want our citizens to have the opportunity to move to Canada, England or whatever legally if they choose to, or if their job takes them there.

And second, we need to continue building diversity in this country. We shouldn't stop immigration, but we do need to control it. Legal immigration is controlled to a manageable number each year - it's the ILLEGAL immigrants that are ruining the system for everyone else.

I think that our economy will not improve for a long time, and probably lots of immigrants will leave. there are only so many mcdonalds, walmarts, landscapers to work for. immigration reform will never happen, it is just used to rile up the base of both poltitcal parties. in reality there is no political will to pass anything related to immigration. i do think that many states will try to pass their own laws; such as mandatory e-verify. illegal immigration is a major problem, but i do think the worst is behind us.

Yes, immigration should be stopped altogether and we should just take care of ourselves. We should pull our troops out of everywhere and bring the back home and put them to the US use. Let the military set up checkpoints around our borders to keep immigrants out and since everyone thinks we are bad guys who never help anyway, we might as well just stop everything we are doing and just become a self absorbed nation. We can make our own fuel for our cars and just take care of ourselves for a while. It's time we stop being the mother hen.

Maybe until we can decide how to handle illegal immigration and get our country cleaned up.

OK, "Know-Nothing" and "Americanists" were of the past. I'm glad to see that you want to keep a cap on how much immigration we experience. It is too much!

How would you propose limiting illegal immigration fairly and efficiently?

You know, I've been screaming and posting that ever since!

This country should put an indefinite moratorium of ALL IMMIGRATION until it "tags and bags" all of these g'damned interlopers and squatters already here...

That would be good, if it would ever happen. It would give the USA a chance to recoup it's losses from the illegal abuses. I don't see it happening though.
