I recieved a parking ticket for parking in a handicapped spot. I didn't mean to but hey I know that's no excuse. The officer wrote the wrong date on the ticket. It was issued on 10/19 but he wrote 12/19 on the ticket. Is there any way I could fight this and not have to pay the $301.00 fine?

NO YOU GOT THE TICKET FOR BEING STUPID AND PARKING IN A HANDICAPPED SPACE . YOU WERE THE ONE IN THE WRONG A DATE IS NOT A LOOP HOLE ON A TICKET.

Nope. You are not handicapped and neither is your girlfriend. Disabled parking is not a spot to park and wait, whether you were in the car or not. You're lucky that all you got was a ticket. You could have lost your car. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is or whether or not an establishment is open or closed. Consider this a lesson learned and leave handicapped parking spots to the handicapped. EMT

From my experiences of driving elderly who need wheelchairs to get around, it is very infuriating to find there are no more handicap parking spots left because someone whom is fully capable of walking without any assistance was too lazy to park 6 spots down from the front door of the business.

Go ahead and try to weazel your way out of paying the fine, karma will catch up with you one way or another.

If you can't own up to a rightfully owned parking infraction, mistake or not, at least TRY to be more considerate of others.

Although sneaky, yes, you can get out of paying the ticket. Just take it down to city hall (or wherever it says on the back of the ticket to file a dispute), and tell them that you received an incorrect ticket.

Tom, in some cases they may not void the ticket, but in this case they would be unable to prove when the infraction actually took place with manual tickets (I assumed the ticket was manual since the date was written incorrectly - with printed tickets this wouldn't happen). However, you have a point that it's probably not as easy as I stated above, since there is the off-chance that you would have to go to court and the issuing officer may witness against you.

Bring it up in court after 12/19/2006.

Make sure you have something that shows the car was not at that location at the time they state and make sure it's far away.

ADJOURN THE COURT DATE UNTIL AFTER THE DATE ON THE TICKET.

Here is what I think you should do.

On December 19th you and the car go for an oil change rather far away from where you live, and make sure that they finish the work right around the same time as the time on the traffic ticket.

Make sure on the oil change receipt the date, time, vin number, and license plate number are on it.

Go to court with this information, and it will be dismissed!

Hmmmm... SELL THE CAR BEFORE 12/19 and let someone else take the rap!!! Hahahahahahahaahahahahahaa!

I think that it USED to be that the ticket had to be meticulously correct in all things.. but in most places that does not apply anymore...

next time.. park across the parking lot.

The way I see it is if you did something by mistake...as you say you did..hopefully it was a mistake. An Officer of the law can't make "mistakes" either.. Your ticket was for illegally parking in a handicapped zone, but you were not parked there on the 12th.

I'm tired of police officer's making mistakes like that, "we can't"

no, the courts will only see this as a minor error

Next of course, even if the one ticket is thrown out, the officer could write you a new one right there in court, since the statue of limitation has not run out on the offence

If you can't do the time or pay the fine, don't do the 'crime'. You're right, selective vision is not a defense. If you put half the energy into where you park your vehicle, as you do trying to get out of tickets you wouldn't be in this predicatment to begin with.

You might bring it up in court. Because of the wrong date it could make the ticket invalid. You might still get a fine but it could be reduced. The Judge might even dismiss the whole thing. Either way it cant hurt to try.
