You don't need to do anything just yet. Currently, you can still download Windows security updates even without WGA validation. However, you will not be able to download other optional Microsoft software, such as Windows Defender and .NET Framework. If you don't use such products then you shouldn't have any problems. There is another component to WGA and that is the WGA Notifier, which is a Micrsoft security update that displays very annoying popups urging you to get a genuine copy of Windows. Just make sure not to download it. Even if you should download it, there are several free software tools to remove it. I think Microsoft will continue providing security updates regardless of validation or not because it is in their best interest to fight the war against viruses and other malware. A OEM version of Windows Home Edition will cost you $89.00 USD at newsegg.com, most computer supply stores sell it at about the same price.

Uh, unless you're like me and have the knowledge to make your own cracks and disassemble code, I would advise against using cracks -particularly Windows ones. The only way to tell if a crack isn't harmful is by disassembling it. Some trojans aren't made the stupid way, where it does quick and easily detectable one-shot damage.
A time bomb or network-related program hidden right inside Windows would most likely never get detected by anti-virus software.
I'm not saying that Big_Chris_Fool is one of these people, but there are some idiots out there who actually promote (or get other people to promote) their own crack trojans on sites and forums like this one.
Save yourself the trouble and just buy Windows.

If you have a bootleg XP CD, then Microsoft can give you a break and allow you to purchase an activation key. Look at their site for details.
If you have no CD and you have to activate or re-install Windows, then you have to buy a Windows XP CD.
You're probably going to need the CD anyway, because many people have had to re-install Windows after getting a trojan/virus or had their system files damaged.

Forget about the WGA just don't install it. If you have a bootleg version that has worked longer than 30 days you're fine. There are six corporate versions out there ( all from West Coast schools!) that can't be detected by Bill and his thugs. You probably have one of those versions. If you want to find out I can tell you just email me.

probabley not
you need a genuine xp installed that is the reason for the validation. To verify that it is not a bootleg copy. You can get a copy at either link for a good price

you will need to buy a legal copy.
if you have windows automatic updates installed your windows installation (windows genuine advantage) will tell you at startup at some point that it is not a legal copy (This copy of Microsoft Windows XP is not genuine) and will let you buy a legal key online.
the easiest way to see what needs to be done is to open any windows explorer window (my computer for instance) then goto:
help > is this copy of windows legal?
it will take you to a webpage similar to the one below which has options for detecting pirated versions of windows, and how to make yourself legal.
downloading 'cracks' and such brings alot of risk - software cracks are notorious for being binded to viruses, trojans, or other bad code which could lead to your computer being hacked.
