What I am talking about is those who deleberately do wrong and use this as an excuse. Some Christians play online chess at work which is against policy, but they use this as an excuse.
I think if people are going to preach their religion and tell me I am going to hell better live a better life than I do. Agree or disagree? If you disagree then what incintive do I or any non Christian have to beleive you when you do not even try to do right? To me it is like you are saying become a Christian and do what you want to because Christi forgives.

firball, judge not lest ye be judged is written for the Christian, not the non Christian. This is what I am talking about, ya'll act as though us unbeleivers have to follow the bible, which we do not even beleive in, but you do not when you overlook the fact it was written as a guide for thie Christian.
I am not ignorant in the bible I studied it for 30 years, was a lay preacher for 24 years. I have preached many sermons. I left Christianity and am now pagan.

Judy, you have a good point and you are on the right track, but the scripture you are thinking about is talking about those who did do good works and thought they were saved but weren't Matthew 7:22,23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord.Lord have we not prophesied in they name? and in they name have cast out devils and in they name done many wonderful works. 23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me ye that work iniquity.
To me this sounds like the charismatics, but I may be wrong though.

Kenneth, yes Christian are supposed to be held to a higher standard. Why? Becaause they say we are going to hell if we do not repent and become as they are. The bible says Christians are ambassadors for Christ. Do you really think that an ambassador for this country would keep his or her job if they acted in a way that brought shame on this country? NO. And the bible even says to not do as the unbeleiver does but holds the Christian to a higher standard.

tiuliucci So it is okay to break a company policy just because you think it is trivial. Well if the policy says if you do this you can be fired states that the company does not think it trivial.
The same person is living with a man she is not married to and has 2 kids by him but tells everone else they are going to hell.
Having sex outside of marrage is breaking of God's commands and though I can understand a Christian trying but giving into temptation every now and then, I cannot overlook the blatetant disregard for the bible commands and have to listen to this person tell me I am going to hell.

Char, congratulations, you are a typical modern Christian. What is the big deal is very common. Ask your employer if they have no problem then you are doing nothing wrong, but if they have a problem, then that is the big deal. Who pays your salary?
I don't bother the Christians who do things like this unless they are telling me I am going to hell. Then I have a problem.
I drive the speed limit. Speed laws are there to make us safe and those who break these laws killl people at times. I have seen Christians go 30 miles over the speed limit and deive very dangerous, but yet i am going to hell becauase I do not beleive the way they beleive, but yet their actions could kill me. Especially the blatant red light running. i am not talking about those times it is not safe to stop, I am talking about those who have plenty of time but go through the light anyway. People get killed this way.

The incentive of being a Christian is worshipping the right God and being pointed in the right direction.

Wow what a great question but lets take it even a step further. Are they really Christians? That is the real question. See just because a person labels themselves a christian does not a Christian make. Fact.
Not only that but the biggest reason many never would consider being a Christian is because of Christians. Think about it for a minute. They claim Christ then they act worse than most of the ones they point their finger at and when questioned about it the response comes back. Oh we are forgiven. Not!!!!
Truth is that is not a Christian but someone playing word games to make themselves feel good about themselves and better than others.
When I claim faith in Christ I then had to learn what he taught, how he lived and model my life after that. When I did that then I learned that everything to that point I had been told was wrong. It was never about pointing the finger of blame at others and telling them that they are going to hell. No. When I look at his teaching he taught putting others before yourself, treating others in the manner in which you want to be treated yourself. Love you neighbor as yourself and love your enemies. Having compassion (concerned passion or concerned love) for others.
See I believe that the real proof in not written in some book but in the deeds and actions of those who claim the faith. Those actions will either affirm the faith or they will condemn it. All too often those who claim the faith condemn it by their actions.
Forgiveness is what faith full believers receive for their crimes against a Holy God not something to use as an out for bad behavior. Judge the actions of a person claiming to be a Christian and see it they measure up, that is who you will know.
True I fall short but that doesn't mean that I give up or make excuses. It just means I fall and believe me I do fall. Still I do not have the right to judge others.

These "Christians" have obvisouly missed the point. If you don't feel conviction about sinning, you are probably not a real Christian. Being a Christian is not a license to do whatever you want. Even though you are forgiven as a Christian, every Christian should strive to grow spritually and deal with each sin in their life according to how they are led by the Holy Spirit.
After becoming a Christian you feel "guilt" for things that you may have enjoyed before. That guilt will never go away because God will never forsake you if you have accepted Him. This is how the Holy Spirit helps you to build a Christ like character. As a Christian you should want to be more like Christ, not like the world. Our sins are forgiven, past, present, and future, but this does not mean a Christian will go on intentionally sinning because it has been forgiven. I would question anyone's sincere "Christianity" if they don't feel guilty when they sin. I know I do.

People are responsible for their own actions. What they use as an excuse for it is also their responsibility. Some choose to do wrong then claim "I am forgiven by God!"
The thing is, once someone sins, they need forgiveness for that sin. It's not like Christ's blood acts as a windshield wiper that automaticly cleanses us of every sin we commit. We have to want forgiveness..
Anyway, if those people wanna play online chess, they should go home and do it. I can't say I'm perfect and abide by all rules all the time, I mess up sometimes and need forgiveness but I'll admit when I was wrong.. The Bible says "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?" Romans 6:1,2
Jesus didn't die for us to have a license to sin, He died so we could have the ability to be free from it.
As Christians we represent our Lord, so we should act like it. The Bible also tells us to be like Christ. Christ was sinless, we have to strive to lead a sinless life. And it is possible too, with Christ's forgiveness.

Yes we are just sinners that have been forgiven but Paul said it best when he said that grace does cover all our sins but does that mean we should sin more so that grace could abound more...then Paul said GOD Forbid.
It would be like us telling someone that we would pay for their gas so they could get to work for the next month and then finding out they were using our gas card on a lot of other things including putting $20 of gas in their friends car and having them give then $10. Being a Christian and even knowing we will not be thrown out, that our salvation is secure is NOT a license to sin more..if anything, we should want to do the things that please the LORD and that includes being a good representative of HIM.
Actually, there is a word for those who act one way in church and another way outside of it...HYPOCRITES
These people need to realize that GOD can not bless those who are not doing HIS will and that they will reap what they sow...there is ALWAYS a cost for sin even after salvation and it always cost more then we can afford. Check the links below

I think that breaking company policies that are trivial do not apply as sins. Sinning means breaking God's rules of right and wrong.
By the same token, being saved puts more responsibility on a person than people believe when they are saved. Jesus said that once you know God, you are more responsible to make every attempt to follow God's will. Jesus also said that people will fail and they need to keep asking Jesus to save them.
I do agree that people who preach should be making a true attempt at following God. But for most people, it is easier to preach than to practice what they preach.
Take care,
Troy

I personally think that no one should preach their religion. Religion comes from what you have seen, and have decided to be true. Therefore, it's kinda silly for me to try to convert someone else. We can discuss what we know, and maybe come to some kind of understanding, but it may not work.
Christians shouldn't do a bad job at work. The bible (Romans 13:1-7) says:
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
Plus, they are getting money from the company for doing work, and if they are not doing work they are committing fraud: getting money for something they are not providing.

The notion that divine forgiveness is automatic can free a lot of people from paralyzing guilt. Unfortunately, it can also free some people from any notion of responsibility for their actions. If the system is to work, people need to acknowledge their guilt, at least to themselves, strive to make meaningful restitution (hopefully to their victims), and take steps to improve themselves.
As a Catholic, it bothers me when Catholic theologians proclaim that sacramental absolution is effective even if the penitent does not follow through on their resolutions. God sees into the heart and can tell sincerity from mere talk. If we accept forgiveness with no serious intention to reform, it's a hollow act.
I may get flack from born-againders, but this is not a matter of "works", it is a matter of "fruits". True conversion produces results you can see.

I don't get tired of hearing this, 'cause I don't wanna ever forget it!
However, you're spot on about "some Christians." The fact it, they're not, really.
I can call myself an alien all day long, and that doesn't make me an alien.
It's those who never have to advertise their salvation who are are truly saved.
As for those hyprocrites, don't worry about them. Pray for them, tolerate as best you can, and ignore them when all else fails.
Lastly, NO ONE has the right to tell you, or anyone else they're going to hell. How very dare they!
You're right about the playing chess against company policy--wrong is wrong, sin is sin, and, for those who believe scripture, well, you know what it says about knowingly and repetitive sinning!
Very best of love and happiness in your journey and your search!
What a wonderful spirit you seem to have!

Sadly, much of you talk can't be denied. Christinans aren't perfect. There's pretty clear evidense of that when you listen to some of these people talk on Y! answers claiming to the christinans. My pastor once said to explect little from people, but alot from God. Because only God can show people how to be humble before him, not pomp christians who use forgiveness as a pitiful excuse to get away from their sin.
After all, everytime someone does sin, they add that much more guck Jesus had to die for on the cross, 2000 years ago... Tell that to someone who is not living like a christian should. And if they get defensive, don't attack back. Tell them it came from another christian who shares your same discuss.

We are sinners that are forgiven, but forgiveness is never a license to sin. those who use it as such are not saved----I do not care what they say. If you blaspheme the Holy Spirit, then you are not saved. We all make mistakes for which we need forgiveness. Sometimes were are forced to willingly commit sin in order to keep a job or stay alive----I have been in both situations several times. It always grieved my heart to have to knowingly displease God. This ought not to be---a Christian should never have to compromise his beliefs to maintain a position with a company or spare his life. Thank God that Jesus is their for us.
