Because they are in love presumably and also that being the reason the man proposed in the first place. Proposed what anyway? Most guys are not willing to commit to any thing other than "will you move in with me" so what kinda proposal do you mean? If its marriage then that is something to be thought about and mulled over. If you are head over heels in love even. Divorce is supposed to be easy but getting married seems to be easier cos people seem to think that "oh never mind if it doesn;t work out we can always get divorced" not exactly the right attitude eh! I would find it very hard to share my life with someone without weighing up all that it meant - No I am not cynical just practical. My soulmate is the one I would do it for. - prefer to live in two seperate apartments though, just to give each other space from time to time.

They don't always say yes.
And if they do then they have probably pondered on it for a while and think they know what they are doing. And as for the younger girls saying yes to a marriage right out of high school they are a bit naive and think they have found the man of a lifetime when in all actuality they just have experienced enough life to know better.
Sorry if I offend anyone that is just my opinion.

Society expects girls today to get married, stay at home and raise babies. This is the proverbial soccer mom scenario prevalent in American culture; somewhat a backlash to the seventies' feminist movement.
But girls still want what they want, the bad boy with no job, no security, no expectations and no morals to speak of. The simple realization comes when the man CANNOT PRODUCE anything worth substantial, at which point the girls says I CANNOT GO ON WITH THIS ANYMORE.
Let's not forget a nice rock tends to come with the package, and girls don't return these anymore.
When she turns 30+ and meets a nice guy, the guy tends NOT to want to propose to someone who chose him LAST.
Hence here's your answer…if you want to get married, marry young, get a nice prenup, and damn make sure she doesn't become a soccer mom.

Because that if what you say when you want to be with the other person for the rest of your life. I have been with my boyfriend for over 3 years, and if he asked me to marry him I would say no. It just depends on the girl you ask. Good Luck.

They never learned to just say no. Marriage is an institution designed to tie two people together for the rest of their lives (assuming there will be no divorce), giving them little opportunity for total independence.
