I got alot of replies, but what I thought was most interesting is how
I was applying a concept to all men who believe in a higher power, and how just by having faith in something rather than what is an orthodox way of connecting with god you are persecuted by your fellow man. Does it matter, I believe in god, and through god I know I cannot judge another's man heart or their faith. But yet when I sited the scriptures matthews 510 christians so hatefully to me, and told me I was wrong, and that the scripture was about their persecution, not mans. How much of a contradiction this is to me, and how full of ego to think that the words of god was meant only for one belief. I do not call christians bible thumpers, they got that name because of their supreme judgement on others, not because they are supposed persecuted, but because they persecute themselves with their actions that they try to force uupon others. Is it too difficult to believe that it's about everyone's persecution?

I didn't answer the question earlier, but I will give you my take on it now, as outline in my Expositor's study guide. In these verses..:10, it's means that those who operate from the realm of self-righteousness will persecute those who trust in God's Righteousness. It also states that having God's righteousness, which is solely in Christ, such have the kingdom of Heaven. :11 It means, only Christ could say, "for my sake" for He is God; there is an offense to the Cross.... So my answer would be no, He's talking about God, not any other higher power. I don't feel persecuted from anyone....People can say what they want and believe what they want. I'm going to continue reading the Word of God because that's where the wisdom is. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question, but why would God encourage people to have other gods...??? somebody's lost.

No. Those that follow Christ, will be blessed; those that do not will be cursed.
