My dog is 11 but since she was 1 she had been diagnosed with a bladder control problem (forgot actually term--something about a weak valve). She pees, without realizing she's peeing. I'd see puddles/wet spots underneath her but she wouldn't move or get up. The vet said she was unaware she'd urinated. She was on medicine that controlled it but they discontinued that med. The new med was much more costly and not as effective. For a while it was okay, but now that she is older, the peeing is getting out of control. Rather than banishing her to be an outdoor dog, what can I do? I am seriously considering making cloth diapers for her. Maybe even regular diapers. Any help would be appreciated.

check the drs foster and smith website for the diapers, but i would definately find a vet that would prescribe a less expensive but effective drug for your dog!

They make diapers for dogs. Look at pet stores. Also, you can cut tail holes in baby diapers. I don't know which is cheaper or easier to use, probably the dog diapers, but you never know.
Good luck and good on you for taking special care of your doggie. So many people wouldn't go to the trouble.

Sounds like you need to change your vet, they dont sound like theyre offering you much choice. In the end, its YOUR dog, if they dont do what you ask them, then its time to move to one who WILL, its common sense, what works for your dog should be the medicine given, not the one that makes them the biggest profit! Get a different vet.

Go back and talk to your Vet. Suggest "Pro-In" as this medication has proven to be very effective in bladder control and it's not very expensive.

I just met a woman today at the pet shop who had the same problem! The pet shop guy suggested that she should use daipers, the ones for babies! You can do that.
