Working on the assumption that high-fructose corn syrup is terrible for the body, is the "crystallized fructose" that is showing up in supposedly "healthier" beverages any better? Or is it a variation of the same processed substance?

Avoid beverages with added sugar, glucose or fructose syrup in them; they're useless and bring in extra calories you could very well do without. Substitute with diet drinks but no more than 2 a day ( to avoid aspartam accumulation)
