how to determine length of bow to arm

A longbow is made to match or exceed the height of the archer using it. The average length of the draw, which you referred to as "bow to arm" is 28" for a 50# bow.

The draw weight will vary with construction, wood used, length of bowstring, etc.

Yew is the preferred wood (That's actual yew, not California Yew), followed by lemon wood. However, any wood will work with varying degrees of success. The staves need to be a minimum of 5/8" thick, and the belly should fit the hand of the archer.

Hope that helps.
