I shall be visiting family and San F'do this Novemeber with my wife. I look like a Trini, but not a local (no tan, man!) - my wife is fair skinned . We're both tattooed, young "alternative" looking types.. but not freaky looking or anything... will live in a pretty rough neighbourhood here at home and are pretty street smart (by North American standards..)

My family there - of course, worries about our safety - but they're old and protective and read too many of those trashy T+T tabloid newspapers..

We have lotsa family willing to take us on trips around to maybe P.O.S., Mayaro, Debe, Caroni and Pitch Lake, etc - but will we be ok taking little jaunts by oursleves via maxi-taxi from Vistabella to High St.? I would rather show my wife around Sando than Gulf City.. which is where I KNOW my relations will want to take us..

so what gives.. is crime as bad as they say? for foreigners??

Daytime is generally ok in San Fernando, even POS. Nighttime I would recommend that you keep close to your family. I was there in February (pre-Carnival) and nothing horrible happened. Just use common sense.

Crime in Trinidad is as bad as it is anywhere else. You have to be a little more cautious because I find Trinidadians can pinpoint foreigners immediately. As with any other place, keep and eye on your wallet. Don't plan to be in any potentially dangerous areas during dangerous time frames (i.e. the bad part of town in the middle of the night etc.), lock your doors be conscious of your surroundings. You will be mostly with family and they can probably highlight things you DON'T want to do by yourself but I've done everything in Trinidad from go to fete to go to the beach. Just be careful. And most importantly, have a good time.

I wouldn't recommend you visiting POS. Stay out of the town area. Not much to see there anyway. However there are good restaurants in St. James. Don't go into town by yourself.

actual? sure, i'm able to. I watched it final night and did no longer think of of Y!A. I watched the episode the place Stan tries to set Francine up with the guy to whom she became as quickly as engaged. some nights in the past I watched the episode noted as 1600 Candles which made me giggle so annoying I almost died*.

It is as narrow as it is wide.....you go home flaunting that you are foreigner they may rough you up....I on the other hand never had a problem...you go home and just blend in without the extravagance and rest assured you will be okay.

Just carry a concealed weapon and you should be fine, of course you need the proper permits to do that.
