I have a older model big screen TV that was given to me. The problem is that the screen is spilt with a green picture and a red picture. Why did this happen and is this expensive or worth fixing. Thanks

ok heres an answer from somone who knows what they are talking about. that set most likely needs new convergence IC's and a complete realignment due to age along with having the coolant fluid changed due to mold growing in it. you are looking at a repair bill between 300 to 600 dollars. If this set is more then 10 years old I would definitely can it and buy a new one. but if its only say 3 or 4 years old I would fix it. anywhere in between is up to you.

When you say an older model big screen, I assume you are talking about a rear projection television.

This television actually has a projector inside of it (similar to the ones that you see for powerpoint presentations). So, there is a red light, a green light and a blue light inside of your tv. When the three of these merge, it creates a proper image. It seems that either the red or the green has become misaligned and needs to be calibrated.

Depending on how old your tv is, there are a few ways this can be done. If the television is REALLY old, you might have some screws in the back that you can adjust things like brightness and contrast with. If this is the case, you might have a few screws or knobs back there to adjust the alignment of the projector. If your tv is newer than this, take your remote control and go into the set-up menus. There should be some kind of picture options, and there might be a way to align the red or green color with the rest of the picture. Not seeing your physical tv, it is hard for me to tell you exactly what to do, but give the manufacturer of your tv a call or check out their website for an instruction manual that should tell you how to do this thing.

If you do not see any options on aligning your tv, you might be out of luck. You might have to call in a professional to align it for you, but finding one might be a longshot in the modern day of plasma's and hovercrafts. Wait... we don't have hovercrafts yet, do we?

You'd have to ask a technician, I have two of those big projection screens, they're 10 years old and it's only now that they've begun having problems, however whenever they do have problems I can usually just slap it hard on the side or the top and it starts working again.

I had an identical subject with our Visio. It took the technician approximately an hour to swap some components. fortuitously it grew to become into nevertheless below guarantee, so it did no longer cost me something. i'm valuable the restoration could have run me a pair of hundred money, in spite of the undeniable fact that.
