In orthodontics,how does elastic bands correct the bite or overbite?

I need know what moves etc. because I don't feel anything, so if someone can find a diagrahm that would be perfect

The intense pressure applied moves the teeth around in the already existent spaces in your jawbone, if necessary, as well as reforming your muscles so they shape to naturally close in a way that takes care of some of your over/under bite.

In some cases, when they use what is called a "Power Chain", it can actually move the roots through the jawbone through constant pressure. This is entensely painful for the first few days after each time a Power Chain is applied. Its the same theory, but more pressure then the rubber bands.

Either way, without the rubber bands, your straight teeth still may not line up perfecly because of your bite, so they should be used.

I have braces and am required to wear rubber bands also. I have to wear the rubber band on my front teeth all the way to the last one. It just holds it down and slowly moves your jaw. It does work since they still make people wear rubber bands.

the bands should have tension when placed on the hooks on your braces, so that it gradually pulls your upper jaw slightly backwards and your lower one more forwards so they are more aligned. if you feel the bands are too lose, ask your orthodontist for a smaller size. they have lots of different sizes and he may have just given you the wrong one.

even though you may not notice right away the movement, trust me..theyare moving!

one of my friends had rubberbands on one side of her mouth. when she got them out, it turns out her ortho made a mistake and her mouth was really REALLY off center/crooked. she ended up having to put rubberbands on the other side to correct his mistake.

you wont really feel anything because the movement is subtle but from my experience you will feel it in a couple days and it WILL hurt.
