I would just use the component, that is the best you have on your TV, and there is no sense in buying a brand new TV just to get the very slight improvement that comes with HDMI.

Well, what connectors DO you have on the back? component? RCA? DVI? You can buy adapaters to convert HDMI into DVI

Edit, then you're stuck with using those. There are no adpaters for s-video nor RCA. Neither support the signal that HDMI uses.
