I can't stand that shot. I was on it after I had my daughter. I had horrible bleeding for a year. That was an every day thing. Talked to my doctor, he kept telling me that it was normal and after the 5th shot the bleeding would stop. I gained 20 lbs in less than a yr while on that shot, mood swings were insane, and the sex drive, well we had sex 4 times that year. The reason it prevents pregnancy is because you don't have sex while on it :) OK for me anyway. I'm not saying that about everyone but for me it was a horrible experience. I'd suggest that you get on a different birth control. One that doesn't have such serious side effects. To me the lack of being with your spouse is serious, weight gain was serious, and having a full blown period for 12 months was serious. I just wish I would've gone by my instinct rather than my docs advice on that one. I don't know how many women get pregnant while on it but knowing the side effects, I'm guessing not too many. Oh yeah and I got the shot every 3 months (12 weeks).

You get the depo shot every 3 months. I'm not sure of how many women get pregnant on the depo but I didn't. The depo shot isn't the right birth control for everyone because of certain side effects (such as weight gain) but I had a great experience when I took it. They say now you can only take it for 2 years because it can develop osteoporosis so you should take a calcium supplement or drink more milk.

I have been on it since March 2000 (after my daughter was born). It is given every 13 weeks, but usually within an 11-13 week window. You must take it by the final day of the 13th week. I have not had a period since July 2000, but have had significant weight gain and hair loss as well due to the shot. At the appt for my last shot, I found out that I had gained six pounds in 13 weeks and lost it. My husband has since had a vasectomy and I am taking my last (hopefully) shot next Wednesday. I never had any pregnancy scares on the shot, but do think six years is too long. Use it between pregnancies, but not as a permanent method. If it works for you, I recommend and IUD.

The depo shot is every 3 months you go and get it renewed. It is a good advantage if your not going to be in a hurry to get prego if you plan to quit getting the shot because it can take 8-16 months to get prego after wards. Some women don't get their period and some do either a light period or right before they are going to get the shot renewed. Not sure on the ratio of how often women get prego being on the shot,I was on it for a year then it took me almost a year 9 months to get prego after the shot. But expect weight gain or loss, mood swings, sex drive change usually lower. But good luck. best thing is no worries on if you remembered to take your pill.

Every 3 months you get the shot. I was on it for 5 years and when i stopped taking it, it took me over a year to get pregnant. I have not had a period in almost 6 years. I finally got pregnant and I'm 26 weeks now.

VERY hardly ever. enable me positioned it like this...my healthcare professional suggested in 20 years he's had perhaps 2 sufferers get pregnant on the shot. With different varieties, he's had a a lot larger failure fee. Plus, in case you seem up information about the shot, you'll locate that for 6-3 hundred and sixty 5 days or extra, maximum females coming off of the shot are nevertheless infertile. definite, this is about the perfect accessible, in case you are able to stay with the uncomfortable area consequences. i could not and were given off of it.

The shot gives you protection for three months. You cannot get pregnant while you are protected. You MUST receive the injection EVERY three months or you can get pregnant.
While you are on the shot you do not have periods or any of the symptoms of a monthly period. My daughter was on the shot about six years. She didn't have any problems except a small weight gain. It was great........But her doctor took her off after the six years because after that amount of time there is a danger of blood clotting.
It's great because you only have to think about it evey three months...........Easy birth control.....

You get the shot once every 12 weeks. You have to be diligent and not get your shot even 1 day past the time you should. This is one of the most effective b/c options, as long as you go to the doctor for EVERY scheduled shot.
