My friend if pregnant about eight weeks
And has now has got the chickenpox
She is a bit worried as are the rest of us are
Many doctors and chemist have said different things
she Today was bleeding and went to the local hospital
And after the ultrasound she found out the baby was ok
Luckily
The bleeding was just some sort of little bleed and now everything is fine
I would like to know what the truth is about chicken pox
And being pregnant what are the risks of losing the baby
And do you know of any things she could do?

Another question i have is
Will the baby be Immune to the pox now if mummy had it while pregnant?

Absolutely. Contracting chicken pox when pregnant is very dangerous for the baby. I have never had chicken pox and am 6 months pregnant with my 4th child. My youngest daughter just turned one and was due for her chicken pox vaccine. I talked in length with her pediatrician about this and from all the research we did we concluded it was much better for her to get the vaccine and me risk getting it from her (it's a live vaccine, but a controlled strain) than for me to risk her getting the full blown wild strain and me getting it then. So we went ahead and vaccinated her. Her pediatrician made me promise I would get the vaccine once I had the baby and was finished nursing.

When women contract chicken pox in the first 8-12 weeks of pregnancy there is a risk of birth defects. The most common manifestation of congenital varicella syndrome is scarring of the skin. Other abnormalities that can occur include a smaller than normal head, eye problems, low birth weight, small limbs, and mental retardation.

I think you are confusing chicken pox and german measles..the later can cause complications in pregnancy..
