Other than openoffice.org you should also try http://www.zohoshow.com/ this is an online presentation creation software. They also have nearly the entire office suite inclusind replacement for MS Word and MS Excel. Check it all out at http://zoho.com.
And talking about online options there is also Google Docs. http://docs.google.com - Google's replacement for MS Word and Excel

OpenOffice is a great alternative...I use it and love it! It can open, edit and save as virtually any file type too (MS Office, Corel, etc.).
