cough syrup is ok, but instead of the normal one whole spoonful, give him only half of it. Just let him drink alots of water and he'll be as good as rain in a few days.

In the first instance have a look at his breathing.
If he has a really high fever or seems to be working hard to breathe, get him to the Emergency Room.
If his tongue is really dry and he is limp and floppy, get him to the Emergency Room.
If neither of these basic emergencies are present then:
he could have paracetamol (acetaminophen) for pain +/- fever if he is not allergic to it.
he should be encouraged to drink plenty of water - make his mucous watery and easier to clear
talk with your local chemist about cough mixtures - coughing is a defence mechanism of the lung. If you suppress the cough altogether you may be making things worse and he may wind up with phlegm stuck in his chest that he is not coughing up and he might get pneumonia.
If you elect to suppress his cough with a cough syrup, make sure you only suppress it during the night so he can sleep and let him cough during the day. Some people would do it the other way around and let him cough at night (particularly if he sleeps through it) and suppress the cough during the day. Either way, allow the lung to get rid of the mucous - give him fluids and let him cough some time.
If he gets worse - take him to see the doctor again.

Ask your child's doctor.
"The doc did not tell me to give him anything" is different than "The doc told me not to give him anything". Did you tell the doctor about the cough?

In all honesty, you shouldn't give any child under 2 years of age medicine w/out consulting the doctor first. I'm sure you can call the doctor's office up and ask them this same question and get a much better answer than you might here. I hope your little one feels better soon.

Only a bad mother would give her child meds that a doctor advises against.
You're child is trying to expel heavy mucus from his lungs. Inhibiting that could be fatal.

i'm questioning hypersensitive reactions in basic terms because she sounds plenty like my daughter. Make a document appt to ensure for particular. For now notwithstanding, use a cool mist humidifier in her room at nighttime. probability is the document will provide her a drugs to help her alongside. hypersensitive reactions are in finished swing in the present day.

Give him honey + water(once or twice a day), steamed or roasted pulses, veg. soup. Give less rice or eliminate.
Avoid milk and milk products, all sweets and bakery foods, oils and fats; he will be alright within three to four days without any medicine.
