Matthew 6:16
"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

Pretty evident right there! They have received their reward, the reward is mans recognition (pats on the back) versus Gods blessings.

You should not fast for a reward anyway. Fasting is a spirtual dicipline to help us with the ability to control the lust of our flesh and make our spiritual man stronger. This is the true reward of fasting, becoming stronger spiritually. It makes you put spiritual things before all physical needs.

Telling someone or bragging that you are fasting simply means you are fasting for the wrong reason anyway. You are fasting to impress people and make yourself look more righteous to the public. Just like prayer, this is a very private matter between you and God, not a showy evidence of your faithfulness to others.

They have received it from man.

God works are from the soul and needs no reward or recognition from man.
It's like when you leave a bag of groceries on the porch of a down and out church member. ring the bell and leave.
They will not know what person left this gift and the glory is Gods.

Fasting is of the same vein, between you and God alone.

There are no rewards for telling anyone you are fasting. The same for prayer if you make a grandstand show of it.
