Matthew 5:10-11

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Thanks Frankeinc.

Jesus is here giving us a contrasting view of the man of God with Christ in him, and the man who has fallen away from God, and has no virtue. Note that if the salt have no savor (no virtue), it is good for nothing. For it is the savor which is the goodness! The savor signifies the good or righteousness. In this verse we are warned not so much of our duty to salt the world, but to see that our salt is genuine, having a real flavor.

Peace brother

Iwantyoutowantme,

Thank you sister! That's because your eyes ore on Him.

The previous verses (matt. 5:11-12) set the context of Christians being reviled, persecuted, and having all manner of evil spoken against them, and it is in this context that in verses 13 and 14 we are warned not to lose our saltiness.

God bless you sister.

Thank you for sharing that with me. you are so right.

It's so good to know that we have such precious people as you to walk this walk with.

Pray for me, I pray for you.

These are evil times indeed.

But God has revealed his truth to us all of us. I'm also thankful that I answered his call.

Peace sister!

AAAAmen!!

You have such wonderful insight. THIS is what God wants of us! TO PROVE ALL THINGS. the evidence of his glory is in all that there is!

Thank you so much for expressing this through the gifts that God has given you.

YOU are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.

God Bless

Thank you Del.

In Christ only can we be the salt of the earth, having flavor or virtue to go forth with the gospel, righteously. In Christ only can we be the Light of the world to go forth in righteousness, the gospel shinning, that many will not walk in darkness. Covenant-breakers who cease doing God's work is like salt which has lost it's savor. Apostasy, or the departing from the faith, is the inevitable result. This salt (without virtue of Christ) is savourless, unfit for use of God, and good for nothing but to be trampled upon by men.

Thank you Jack.

My eyes are on the victory!

Salt loosing it's flavor is salt which has lost all it's goodness. This analogy is the same one as Jesus uses of a light which has been put under a bushel or bed. In other words, it's made useless! No Christian should hesitate to salt the earth, or to let his light shine, for fear of not being popular, or being reviled, hated, or persecuted by man. God says blessed are those who for the sake of Christ endure these things.

Peace

Thank YOU fryedaddy.

You're right. The measure I am speaking of and seeking is the perfect measure that Christ requires.

I speak of the kingdom and the gospel on many ocassions, in many different ways, to many different people. Most of the time - here - I choose to ask questions that help edify and exhort Christians.

Of course, the Word IS meant for ALL.

Christ didn't come to save men "no matter what god they believe in". You (I) believe and obey Him, or you (I) perish.

Thomas was there with Him in the flesh, and STILL questioned who he was!

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, BUT BY ME.

I, for one, can't misunderstand THAT.

He goes on to say:

If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Peace brother.

Yes. We are the salt of the earth. What does salt do to food? It gives it flavor. It gives it hope. It makes it an enjoyable and palatable dish. We are to do the same here on earth - give hope to those around us in the big mixing pot of life. Make life more palatable. Make it bearable.

By the same token, what happens to a dish if you put in too much salt? It is not edible. That is why we must be careful to use our words wisely and not try to insult the unbelievers or shove it down their throats. God Himself is a gentleman. He does not force Himself on anyone. We need to follow His example. Offer the "missing ingredient" to the unbeliever but if he/she refuses let them go in peace with a prayer for their soul. The seed is planted. God will use that.

Hi been there, if you're simply finding out or a brand new Christian, it's going to come forth in the way in which you speak, and act. Salt used to be used for cleaning, equivalent to cleansing a chopping board, it attracts out the grease/dust/germs. We advert spice to the atmosphere, our phrases create a query or maybe a mission for individuals who listen us. Light, have you ever ever spotted the glow on a few guys and females's faces. It isn't make up, however the love the individual has for God in there middle, it simply radiates. The more potent you turn out to be on your perception, whilst the phrases you talk and stroll the stroll offers you boldness, it's going to be obvious in that "opposed atmosphere". This does no longer imply it's going to be convenient, however God is aware of approximately it and the Holy Spirit will remedy you. God Bless.

Don't you guys ever get tired of preaching ? Why doneth you goeth to the churcheth an preacheth from the pulpheth ?
If Christians are nothing but a block of salt, I'm glad I'm not one. Was it Lot who was turned into a block of salt ? Now you want all Christians to be the same.

Salt! A preservative. Without it the world would decay at an even faster rate. Praise God for such a glorious calling, a calling of intercession on behalf of the unbeliever, a world full of iniquity. I pray that by the grace of God alone that I can live up to this calling, to be salt of the earth.

Thanks for sharing!

Pamela: (Below me) Excellent point about 'over salting'. I just love this analogy as it seems to go on and on. So much to glean from it.

Yes thankyou, but as with anything a little of too much can be harmful, and distasteful. I like salt for my seasoning, but I aslo like pepper, and I like sugar too. I commend you for your passion we need more people like you spreading the word of god, that is not meant for only christians, but for all. Listen to the words you wrote, and ask yourself what do they mean.
Blessed are ye(believers of god) when man shall revile you(chastise you) and all manner of evil against you(judgement of one's belief in god) and falsley do this in my name(god)
Does this not apply to all men who are judged by how they choose to believe in god, and are said to be evil by their fellow man in the name of god?
