I used to feel like you at one point, its all a part of growing up. One minute you can be really upbeat and next minute you are down in the dumps. I don't want to sound patronising but its hormones playing tricks with you. Just go with the flow, soon you'll stop feeling depressed, I promise.

I didn't ask whether there is anything going on in your life that is making you feel melancholy. There's that also!

Happiness is an emotion having both physical and mental derivatives and at any given point in time reflects the state of one's mental health. So that nutrition plays a part in facilitating balanced body functions (mainly the brain in this instance). At the same time the way one views one's self / situation v/s the contending other(s) / situation - one's perception - influences analytical outcomes; the conclusion(s) arrived at respecting the prevailing condition. Thus it might be reasonable to conclude that improper nutrition can render a student incapable of coping with the physical demands placed on the brain thus limiting the attention span. From a mental standpoint it may be that one is not sufficiently motivated to face the challenges of the exercise / activity in which one is engaged (lack of interest). The resolt? Stress, frustration, and fatigue. No one in such a state will be anything but less than happy.
