My dog was sprinting around in the woods, and when she came back limping I looked at her paw. It looks like the tendon holding her toe to the rest of the paw has been mostly sliced through. Now that toe sticks out more than the rest, and the claw on that one points out and a little upward, while the rest of the claws point downward toward the ground. It's been about a week - at first I thought it was just a cut. She licks it all the time. Will this be a permanent injury? Is there anything I can do? She seems to be taking good care of it herself - should I take her in? From what I've heard about tendon injuries in people it seems like there's usually not much one can do. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks.

I would take your dog to a vet as soon as possible. And if your dog is licking it's injury that won't do it any good. Some dogs tend to lick their injuries raw, causes more pain than it already does.
So my advice is take your dog to the vet and see if there is anything he/she can do for your pup.

This sounds like a "dropped toe" which is not usually consided a functional problem. I had a dog did this on her entire foot at that time there was nothing that could be done. 14 years later it hasn't been a problem at any time. It can be repaired now but at this point I decided not to put her through it.
My concern is that it sound like it may include an open cut and that can get infected - if it hasn't "closed" in a week I'd DEFIANTLY haul her to a vet

confident, the vet can positioned it decrease back into place yet, that doesn't help us comprehend why it got here out interior the 1st place. And if it is going to slip out back. Your boxer is coming up some intense issues these days. i think i could could ask your self the place this became headed in an 11 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous canine. vast canines (rather organic-breeds) age quickly. Dislocations are very painful. do no longer wait til the morning, this demands interest this night.

As a human I have had tendon repair and let me tell you It hurts like hell!!! I was on morphine at first. To let your dog go untreated is cruel, now that you know that it doesn't just go away I hope you get the dog to the vet. Please try to get the dog in asap. Thanks for asking
