I remember reading a play a few years ago but I hardly remember anything about it. It had a main character who was going to be promoted in the church but he had to convert (the king was changing the religion) and he refused. Im pretty sure he ended up being killed in the end. Thats really all I remember. Anyone?

Becket.

At least from what you've been able to tell us.
It's the story about Thomas Becket, a close confidant, drinking buddy and friend of King Henry the VIII, who was appointed to become the new religeous councelor for the country when the old one passed (and because the RC Church wouldn't permit Henry to appoint himself...); but who gradually took the post seriously enough to stand up the Henry when he started changing the religions, laws, etc.. to suite his ......uhm.....marital needs....

I hope someone knows the answer. You've got me curious now. Sounds like a good play.
