Compare the jobs, not the money, and choose the one that best fits your personality. My guess is that you should stay out of education unless it's what you want to do more than anything else.

Probably neither. Unfortunately teachers are in the lowest paid bracket across the country. Social work alot of times depends of volunteers to support them . So finding a paid job is sometimes more diffucult than not. If you get to be a good teacher in a nice school you could possibly make a decent salary. So if there were only those two choices I would say math teacher.

My sister taught middle school and I was a social worker. We had comparable annual income and very similar insurance and retirement benefits. However teachers only work about nine months a year so in real, hourly dollars she made more.
Now with a Masters degree on Social Work I"m sure there are some higher paying jobs to be found.

Masters Degree Social Worker who can put a single out makes more than a teacher with a credential.
If you are talking BA vs. BA, the TEACHER will make more in a UNION school after 20 years.
If you are talking MA vs BA the social woker makes more immediatley.

what you need to to is go to salary.com and look at the stats for each profession. both will be demanding and underpaid. the problem with social worker is that when there are funding cuts, social work is usually one of the first things to go. but if you are in a metro area, youshoulnt have any problems.

They're about the same in pay. You just have to decide which job would have less hassles. I'd go for the social work.

I would advise you to go to payscale.com. You can compare the salaries in your city. Also, don't ever take a job just because it pays big bucks. If you're not passionate about the work that you do eventually you'll hate going. Trust me!
