Cigarettes have a tax on them that goes to the government...so in actuallity they may encourage rather than discourage smoking

The government makes a ton of money from the taxes they tack onto cigarettes. They wouldn't apply the tax to something that everyone uses, like toilet paper, beccause they know that people are addicted to smoking and will pay the higher price. It isn't as easy to just say "Oh the price of cigarettes went up again, well I am not buying them anymore!" It's just not that simple. Our government is greedy and will try to bleed every cent out of us hard working citizens any way they can. To the former person that said our government makes no money from cigarette sales because the taxes go towards helping to fix the detrimental effects of smoking, you are sorely mistaken. The tobacco companies are the ones footing that bill not our government. Have you not seen some of the lawsuits against them? If we all had health insurance provided by the government like some countries, then I could agree with you on that. But that is another problem with out government and I will not start to rant about that.

surely. it extremely is all approximately tax gross sales. They do their superb to make people who smoke social outcasts yet enable the sale of tobacco to people. it extremely is hypocrisy on a great scale and somewhat in preserving with how this government works. Banning tobacco could be a great boon to the countries well being bodily, yet could reason issues for each individual - which contains people who by no skill smoked - via fact the government could get their money by way of taxing different issues. Then tobacco may be the take care of of the criminal, like prohibition in 1920's usa. All in all, no longer a competent thought to restrict tobacco. it is going to possibly be phased out finally - many, some years from now.

The Government gets an ENORMOUS amount of tax revenue from smoking. They have a great thing going. They extract the tax money for cigs and beers yet spend money trying to reduce the usage. I would bet no one in goverment actually wants you to stop smoking or drinking. They would have close up if we all did that.
