They've got to "Net-work -- Net-work -- Net-work". Statisticaly speaking, to make it big the chances are small ... to be on the upper above average - little better than small ... to be average, well who wants that?

It depends on your talent I would say. Does she have a portfolio of her work? She need to get meeting with designers and then sale herself and say how she will be a great asset to the team they have already. She must pick someone that is in the same style that she designs.
About NYC...talk about expensive!! I lived there for one year and I couldnt believe it. I paid for a one bedroom place 1300.00 a month, but the pay is much higher than most places.

If she dosn't have a work visa she has no chance of getting a job. There is Very tough enforcement of imigration and work laws in the fashion indstury in New York due to its history of sweat shops.
