I don't think you should worry, I didn't talk properly until I was 3 and now I am a qualified teacher! Different children develop at different ages. x

By 2.5 years a child should be saying around 50 words and using 2 word phrases. If your son is not doing this then you can call your local school district and ask for a developmental assessment through the Early Start program. These services are free.

He is only 2 1/2 I wouldn't worry about it at the moment, if you are still concerned speak to his Pediatrician and they can check his hearing, motor skills and his bite (the way his teeth are situated in his mouth) If he/she doesn't find anything then you won't worry so much. I would give him more time though, maybe he just doesn't want to right now.

I took my daughter to a speech evaluation expert when she was 2.5. They told me not to worry about her speech development until she turned three. And that even at three it was hard to determine weather speech therapy would help her, because some kids just don't develop language completely until around four. The Expert told me to work on correct pronunciation of the words my daughter did use. Hope this helps and good luck.

Don't concern yourself with how much he is saying as to how it is being pronounced. My son hardly said anything until he was 3. When he finally started to talk, he spoke better than most kids his age. Just make sure he speaks well, not soon.

Don't worry about it. As long as you speak properly and clearly he will learn and repeat from you in his own good time. It may be worth brushing up on your own vocabulary and diction skills (not saying there is a problem now, just saying improving your own skills will improve your childrens) as your skills will be passed on naturally via the learning process.

No...my son didn't talk much until he was about 4. We took him to the dr. because we thought he had hearing problems but he was fine. Now (he's 13) and he won't shut up!!!
