I appreciate your effort to educate, but you're not going to accomplish this alone. Too many muslims are sympathetic to radical groups, like the hezbollah and al qaeda. The stereotypes Islam has been given were created by the practioners themselves. Maybe they should be taught what the "real" Islam is all about. A Christian doesn't care, and neither does a Buddist. Why explain anything to anyone other than Muslims? Personally, I think that if Islam is truly a religion of peace and love, then those who have blown it so far out of proportion, should take some responsibility. Do not blame me for hating Islam, I didn't make it what it is today!

It really is a lovely thought, but i'm afraid you can't condense a religion into a paragraph or two (though many have tried on this site!). I reccommend reading the Qur'an with an opend mind - specifically, not going into it with, "So this is the handbook of the terrorists. Let me see if i can locate certain passages, distort them, and make it seem as though this 'scripture' is preaching terrorism and all need to stay away from the religion," as a good deal of so-called Christians and atheistic radical Westerners seem to do. It truly is a good book. Though i myself am basically Christian, i have adopted a good deal of its teachings into my life because it is a pure way of worshipping G-d. Hope this helps!
PS: I find it rather ironic that a good deal of the answers so far have been closed-minded...was that not what this question was speaking out against?

YES!!! It is important to understand other people's religious belief as a general principle. This is as true of Islam as it is of American Protestantism, which has hundreds of denominations with their own particular beliefs.(More information about this can be found in : "The Handbook of Denominations", which outlines the beliefs of hundreds of American Protestant Denominations.)This is also true of Catholicism and Judaism and other world religions. Religious understanding provides a framework for cultural organization and societal framework.Understanding permits communication and sharing of ideas. The objective here should be not to evangelize but to understand. As a matter of personal opinion I believe this: True religious conversion takes place by careful consideration, rather than at the point of a sword. Sword conversions are superficial at best, and are maintained by force rather than commitment to a set of religious beliefs. This principle holds true regardless of the faith that is being discussed. The histories of theocracies should be studied for historical patterns. It should be noted that in Massachusetts in the day of its settlement by the Pilgrims, 1620>,they established the Puritan Republic, which was a theocracy.

we can do no better than to read the very words of Mohammde
http://www.prophetofdoom.net/
According to the earliest and most revered Islamic sources, Muhammad was a sexual pervert, a thief, and a terrorist. The evidence strongly implies that he not only conceived his god in his own image, his religion was imposed to satiate his lust for sex, power, and money. Confirmations of these conclusions are overwhelming and undeniable. Simply stated, according to the Islamic scriptures, Muhammad was the most repulsive, and thus the least qualified, divine messenger in human history. Further, his Qur'an recital serves as proof. By any rational, literary, historic, or moral criterion it is the worst book ever written - something that is proven beyond any reasonable doubt a thousand times over in the pages we have provided for you.
While I don't expect you to agree with us at this point, if you care enough about yourself, your family and your country, to read on, the truth will become obvious. But sadly, I suspect that the vast majority of you who are still reading these words will reject this singular opportunity to actually understand who the terrorists are, who they serve, why they kill, and what will stop them. I say singular because Prophet of Doom is not only the best documented and most comprehensive presentation of Islam's charter documents, its exposure of Islam is without equivocation. All others relegate terrorism to radical Islam - suggesting that a good and peaceful religion was somehow hijacked by the jihadists. Nothing could be further from the truth or more debilitating, destructive, and lethal to humanity.
The reality is all good Muslims are bad people. Islam makes them that way. Those who follow Muhammad's example are terrorists, kidnappers, thieves, and rapists. If you want to understand why Osama ben Laden hates us and why Muslim suicide bombers murder their fellow Muslims and fly planes into our buildings, all you have to do is read their scriptures. Good Muslims lie, cheat, steal, kidnap and kill because their prophet not only did these things, he ordered them to follow his example.

I would like to know many things that Muslims seem loathe to answer. We can start with WHY did Muslims riot and threaten to kill people over a bloody cartoon? I can't get over that one.
May the gentle breeze of roasting peanuts fill your life with joy, and may the nutty sweetness of the hazlenut mingle with milk chocolate, and make your bread a delicious sandwich.

Yes, I'd like to know more. Especially where you think the line is crossed, how it is crossed and what the Islamic world can do to fix it. What are your true beliefs and why. Why, so I understand, that if the Qu'ran says to obey the Bible, it seems that you do not. Please, I would like to know more.
Thanks

I don't have any questions to ask you about Islam. I have something to tell you. Islam is a religion, founded by Mohammed in around 610 AD. Islam is a religion that teaches people how to hate Jewish and Christianity.
You have to remember that Satan is world's greatest deciever, he WAS the one who helped Mohammed to start a new religion. Satan hates the truth, so he twisted the "truth". There is no love in Islam. So he named a god "Allah."
OK, let me get you the point...God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit existed before the creation of the earth. Three persons but one God (Trinity). He taught us about love. Jesus said that He has the authority who can forgive your sins. No other men like Mohammed, priest, pastors, etc can forgive your sins. Jesus promised that He would come to this world to save our sins. He did. He came into this world in blood and flesh. He ministried and showed many miracles to many people. He died on the cross for our sins. Satan TRIED to tempt Jesus, but he failed... Jesus paid the price for our sins through His death on the cross because He loves you. In the Old Testament long before Mohammed dirted his diaper, God said "there is no gods beside me..." He was talking about ONE God, as Himself... there is no gods like Allah, Buddhist, etc.
Be warned, you are being deceived by your religion, Islam.
By accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour isn't a religion...it's a necessary to save your soul through His perfect love.
You might say that you and I are worshipping same God. That's not so!!! Muslims are worshipping "Allah" but Allah isn't even there... Allah won't be even there for you after your death. After your death, you will face the true God (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit) in the Judgment.
Come on, use your senses...I am talking about the real love through Jesus Christ. Try Jesus and you will discover many new things in your life...I promise you, you will be amazed and you will experience His love. The Bible says "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
If you believe in Jesus, you will have everlasting life. That is His promise. He came into thie world to die for our sins. His Blood will wash away our sins. He has the ONLY authority to forgive your sins. Your Allah can't do that because Allah is all lie.

I'd like to know more too.
Shall we start with why a nun was shot in the back and two churches firebombed when all the Pope did was to quote from history?
It only proved the words, from history, correct.
Stereotypes? my bum.

Have you read this book ?
What is your opinion, from the list below, provided by Spencer in his book?

by Robert Spencer

Muhammad's bizarre reaction to his first "revelation": "I will go to the top of the mountain and throw myself down that I may kill myself"
The heretical Christian who convinced Muhammad he was a prophet – and may have taught him his erroneous views of Christianity
Islamic borrowings from Judaism, Christianity, and Zoroastrianism – and Muhammad's enraged replies to charges that he borrowed material rather than received actual divine revelations
The "revelation" that allowed Muhammad to marry his beautiful daughter-in-law

Muhammad's child bride – and the terrible consequences his marriage to a nine-year-old still has in the Islamic world
"This is the caravan of the Quraysh possessing wealth. It is likely that Allah may give it to you as booty": how Muhammad gave divine sanction to the Muslims' bloody raids
"War is deceit": the permission Muhammad gave his followers to lie in order to gain an advantage over their enemies
How Muhammad broke the principal treaty he entered into, again setting a pattern for Muslim states thereafter
Muhammad's commands to his followers to wage perpetual war against non-Muslims, including Jews and Christians
Muhammad on women's rights: women "are prisoners with you having no control of their persons"
"If justice is not to be found with me then where will you find it?" Why Muhammad still stands for Muslims as the supreme model for human behavior
"I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula, and will not leave any but Muslims" – and other statements by Muhammad that contemporary jihadists take very seriously
Islamic tolerance? The onerous tax burden and other discriminatory regulations mandated for non-Muslims under Islamic law
How Muhammad ordered the killing of apostates from Islam
The massacre of a Jewish tribe by Muhammad that was invoked by modern-day jihadists at the beginning of Israel's July 2006 operations against Hizballah in Lebanon
"Embrace Islam, and your lives and property will be safe": Muhammad's threatening letters to the rulers of the lands around Arabia
Muhammad's frequent avowals that the Muslims would overcome the empires bordering on Arabia and one day stand as masters of the world
