Jehovah's Witnesses understand the Scriptures to teach that God's Kingdom will soon replace all earthly governments.
(Daniel 2:44) God of heaven will set up a kingdom... It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite

That Kingdom will rule over the vast majority of mankind, most of whom will have been raised from the dead after Armageddon.
(John 11:23,24) Jesus said to her: “Your brother will rise.” Martha said to him: “I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

Until that resurrection, there is no suffering in "hell", or the grave. Sometime after the resurrection, death and "hell" will themselves be destroyed.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all
(Ecclesiastes 9:10) there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol ["hell"]
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades ["hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire

While a limitted number of humans will be resurrected to heaven to share in ruling over mankind, the vast majority (literally more than 99.9%) of Jehovah's Witnesses expect an EARTHLY hope, the same hope given to Adam and Eve.
(Genesis 1:28) God blessed them and God said to them: “Be fruitful and become many and fill THE EARTH and subdue it [caps added]
(Genesis 2:17) You must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die [so never eating from that tree means never dying]

Interestingly, the Scriptures are full of references to this earthly hope.
(Psalms 37:11) 'the meek will possess the earth'
(Proverbs 2:21) 'upright will reside in the earth'
(Isaiah 45:18) 'God formed the earth to be inhabited'
(Matthew 5:5) 'the mild will inherit the earth'
(Revelation 21:3) The tent of God is with mankind

JW's as a whole are not a bad religion. They are excessively dedicated in studying the bilble and like everyone else derive their own answers and interpetations. It is a male dominated religion. Their faults? Way too many past predictions that the world was going to end. Throwing people out of there church who may have conflicting view points or new ones. They use scare tactics to get your attention. Like- The World will soon end, it's now or never. They think only their religion is the chosen one and all others preach false religion. Many religions do exactly this but they have no right to cast any stones.

I commend your desire to get to know who Jehovah’s Witnesses are.

Asking who in this format is like a Jew (in Jesus’ day) asking the Pharisees who Jesus is.
Then going to a Roman solider and ask who Jesus is.

It is amazing how many lies, and half truths are out there.

I remember when at work one day (many years ago) when I mentioned that I had started studying the bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

All of a sudden everyone at the table became an expert on the bible and on Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I especially remember a tract this one person gave me. Entitled what the Bible teaches vs what Mormons, and JW teach, by the Moody Publishing Co.

Inside was a Scripture reference, a statement from the Mormons belief, a statement from the JW belief, and a statement about what the bible teaches.

There were about 12 different points.

The interesting thing was when you actually looked up the scripture in the tract, it agreed with the JW column and not their so called bible teaching in 11 of the 12 points. The 12th point didn’t prove either and I found it was taken out of context.

Please go to the source, ask one of Jehovah’s Witnesses or go to the official web site

They don't believe in blood transfusions, they don't celebrate birthdays because King Herod's daughter asked for John the Baptist's head for her birthday present, they don't celebrate Christmas because it comes from pagan roots, and they don't salute the flag.

The ironic thing is that on birthdays and holidays they get together under other pretenses. For example, rather than have a Thanksgiving dinner they will have a "get together".

They are not given the protections of not being drafted in the military. I think it is because they are willing to work government jobs.

Also, I think they believe that only so many souls will go to Heaven.

Anybody who is not part of their group is considered "worldly" and I have met some who won't associate with anyone outside of their group.

I think the founder probably was cheap and didn't like giving gifts so was against Xmas and B-days.

They are very agressive in conversion so be careful inviting them into your life.

Stay ignorant!

They are a typical, silly made-up American fundamentalist sect, with their own take on certain biblical prophesies, and their own selective interpretation of particular commandments.
They are an end-time cult, and have been predicting Armageddon for over a hundred years now. Every couple of decades, they re-write their interpretations and just keep quiet about all the end dates that have come and gone with no sign of Armageddon. For example, they now deny that they ever said the end was coming in 1976 - they pass it off as just a few rouge witnesses getting over-enthusiastic. But I was being brought up as A witness at the time, and believe me, they took that date very seriously, I have heard it expounded from the platform at their meetings and assemblies, I know people who quit their jobs and sold their property because of it. Of course, '76 was just one of a very long list of predictions they made that didn't pan out. There are lots of other weird bits of their theology they don't like to talk about now, like the prediction that when the 'new system' comes, God will turn black people back to white, forgiving the shame of Ham! Or their ascertain that Aluminium was the work of the devil, and true christians should not use pots or pans made of it!
The problem for witnesses is that all this stuff is in their old books and magazines, so no matter how much they deny it, the truth is out there!
On a less trivial note, they had for years been identifying the United Nations as the abomination of Revelations, they have published whole books about this. What the rank and file witnesses didn't know was that the JW organisation was affiliated to the UN for years, and accepted 'privileged status' as an associated organisation!!
Then there is the paedophile thing. JW's interpret a particular scripture to mean that they can not testify against each other in a court of law, so they have a policy of protecting paedophiles and other criminals within the organisation. Again, they would deny this, but the proof is out there.
All in all, a nasty bunch, even by Xtian standards.

I used to be a witness.... If you are thinking of getting involved with them please research it first!!! I respect some of their beliefs but I have major problems with some of them....

One of my biggest problem with them is that they have what they call disfellowshipping. I became involved with them for a long time, made great friends, my family was involved and i was very close to my family. Well I started to have doubts and low and behold... I lost everything... They steered way clear of me... They believe that you must not spend too much time with non-believers... That includes family and best friends!!! Now, I can understand if I had done something like robbed a bank, or even slept with someone before getting married, I could've been repentant for something that I did wrong. But I did nothing wrong, simply had doubts. Its ridiculous.

The Watchtower Organization believes that it is 'God's Mouthpiece'. It alone is the only means of communication from God to us. Therefore, anything that is printed in those Watchtower and Awake magazines, is from God and must be obeyed or else you are rebelling against God himself. This would include their views on dating, voting, sporting events, holidays, blood transfusions, the list goes on for miles.... Now note.... some people, for not obeying these various beliefs have become disfellowshipped. But what gets me is that their beliefs have flip flopped a lot... So what happened, was God wrong about it at first??? And what happened to the disfellowshipped people? They still stayed disfellowshipped til they showed the proper amount of repentance....

I used to work with a girl who was. She told me that it's very big in America and Canada (where she was from) and that it was relatively new religion as it was created in the 1900's. They don't celebrate the birth of Christ but they do something at the time of the death.

She advised me they go around peoples houses as they are told to spread the word.
