in Iraq. Two weeks before leaving you get orders that extend your stay another 6 months. How do you think the soldiers feel about this? If there are soldiers who went thru this...how do you feel about this?

notyou311 has no idea what he/she's talking about. All of the Armed Forces have reached their recruiting goals.

However, when I was in back in '92, the Democratically controlled Congress, along with Slick Willie and Algore began drawing down the military to achieve a "Peace Dividend." You remember that don't you? After all, the Soviet Union didn't exist anymore, and China is our "friend" now, so what the heck, we'll draw down the military by 25%.

The trouble was, we ended up with nearly 50% drawn down. When I was in, the Army alone had 1.2 million troops. Now the whole military has 2,923,966. (Including DOD civilians!) So, place the blame where it belongs.

It certainly doesn't help. They spend so much time there, and they're so close to coming home and seeing their families again, and then they're told they can't. BUT they still have jobs to do, and they'll do them even through the grumbling.

It's no picnic on the families' side of things either. It's that much more time without your spouse, or the children's father, and that much more time worrying if tomorrow there'll be two soldiers in class A's standing at your front door. BUT, it's their job, and we signed on same as they did, and those of us with integrity and true loyalty to our spouse, stick around and do our jobs, even through the grumbling. Hm, and people wonder why the military has such high divorce rate....

I honestly have been offended over Iraq for some time, yet I honestly have been bothered by way of the further problem of what could contain a precipitous withdrawal. we've a tiger by way of the tail, and we'd desire to get a muzzle on it till now we permit pass, or it is going to turn and consume us alive. It grew to become into the incorrect conflict on the incorrect place on the incorrect time. we'd desire to continually have accomplished the activity in Afghanistan till now we took on the "Saddam subject." despite the fact that if, that's what that's. we won't merely pull out, despite the fact that if it hurts like hell to video reveal the continued destruction and the soreness our youthful men and girls folk are coping with as they lose pals or their independence to demanding injuries. It hurts to attempt to convenience the neighbor whose son grew to become into killed. i do no longer prefer our courageous squaddies to proceed to die. i prefer an go out approach, no longer "throw stable money after undesirable" continuation of the present "approach." we can might desire to proceed with the 12.5 billion money according to month for a jointly as, yet a PLAN to cut back that quantity and the accompanying destruction is critical and easy to cleansing up the mess we are at the instant in.

It doesn't help but every service person learns to expect the unexpected and deal with it .
In 1973 , I got the word to mount out to fly to Isreal within 12 hrs., in 3hrs , we were sitting on the airstrip , loaded for bear .
My men bychted , but nobody tried to get out of it .

We can thank the Clinton Admin. for the shortage of troops and equipment . They cut the size of the military by 25% , canceled contracts for new vehicles , body armour , spare parts , ect .
That's where they got their budget surplus , on the backs and lives of the military .

You don't get "orders." You are assigned a unit. The unit is deployed when told and comes back when told.

It sucks, but you know going in that this is always a possibility. Your morale goes to sh*t, and then you get over it and do your job.

They cannot get enough new blood/ enlistees so they keep recycling the same troops. It is ridiculous and this war is getting totally out of hand. More terrorists are joining the cause every day. Support the troops; bring them home.
