..on fresh batteries, and now I am getting a "Battery Empty" reading, is this normal?

I have to agree with "Manish" that transferring pictures with a card reader is the safer way than connecting the camera to the computer. I've bought a SanDisk brand card reader for about $10 on sale for my camera, though other brands exist that will work too.

I don't know what kind of memory card the Olympus 130 takes, but the "SD/MMC" and "Memory Stick" cards have a small "lock" switch on the back that prevents the cards from being erased when the switch is set the lock position. It's best to set the switch when transferring pictures, to prevent accidentally erasing the photos during transfer. You'll have to unlock the card later to erase it or take new photos, though.

Others have mentioned rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. They (and a charger, of course) are well worth the cost in not having to buy a lot of cheap batteries. The only bad thing about NiMH batteries is that they go dead on their own after a month or so. If you don't use the camera for weeks at a time, you'll have to remember to recharge the batteries before taking pictures.

Yes that's normal because you are using non-rechargeable low quality AA batteries. If you use either duracell MAX or high capacity NiMH rechargeable batteries, u'll not face the same situation.

Also, it is true that the Olympus E series (e100, 110 etc) uses a lot of battery. So you are better off using highest capacity rechargeable batteries.

Just as a reminder, please do NOT use your camera to connect to the computer and download photos, use card reader. Because while downloading photos, if the batteries drains out, the memory card will be corrupted and u'll lose the photos.

I'm going to go against the crowd here...undoubtedly, Canon and Nikon make excellent cameras (and for the sake of full disclosure, I'm a Nikon guy!) BUT, unless you are planning on going pro and spending LOTS of money I would look at OTHER brands, and here's why: In order to compete with Canon or Nikon's reputation, they have to put out BETTER cameras. Check out the Olympus, Panasonic or Pentax varieties. They certainly are capable of stellar photographs, and you'll get better feature sets for the money.

This has happened otme on an Oly as well. Your best best is to spend $10 for a card reader (they will read several types of cards) and remove your card from the camera and use the reader to empty it instead. This also gives you the added benefit of avoiding hooking your camera, andits operating system, up to a computer that can corrupt it.

It's either the camera that doesn't work, the computer or the batteries. Sorry I know you know that too.

I would ask someone that works at the place you bought the camera and the batteries or ask a proffessional or buy a new one which I would not reccomend.

Yes cause it takes alot of "juice" from the camera to transfer if you have an ac plug-in on your camera i would avoid using batteries and use the power adapter

yes its possible that will happen you should have an AC plugin that comes with the camera if you bought it correctly . other than that it drains the batteries quite fast when you transfer to your comp...

picasa is a Google's photo software. It's what should've come with your camera.

No... but it depends what types of batteries you are using. For normal AA batteries this is "normal" but if you're using rechargebles then they should last longer.
