I had this done with my hands to see if I had carpal tunnel syndrome. (turns out I did and have had one surgery)
The technician will just hook you up to a machine to register the responses - it really doesn't hurt - I guess at a certain level I remember it feeling like a shock - like the kind you get in winter from static. Don't worry about it - let the technician know if you are anxious, then he or she can talk you through everything. Sometimes it helps to know what the technician is doing step by step.

I had one done to see how much damage was done to my legs after a back surgery and it hurt so bad the technician had to hold my legs down so he could finish. I don't understand how they can say it doesn't hurt. I deal with a lot of pain in my body but this was unbearable.

it hurts sure since they poke you with needles and run electric currents etc, but its not too bad , look at it the other way, if it was ordered, it is probably needed to et some answers anyways, good luck
