OK, I have a bottle of Gin, do I now just drank half, and top it up with the Sloe berries I've collected from Blackthorn bushes? Surely there's some more detail e.g. do I prick the berries to puncture the surface, how much sugar to add, any other flavour enhancing tips? How long to ferment?

Sloe Gin Recipe

Pick your sloes from blackthorn hedges in October or November when they are most ripe - probably after the first frosts.
Take a litre bottle of gin, and drink half a litre

Cut or prick the sloes and drop into the half-empty bottle so that they displace the remaining gin to near the top.
Add one wine goblet of sugar (approx 150g).
All you have to do now is turn or agitate the bottle daily for a week, then weekly for a month or two ... by which time it will be ready to drink (but it is really best kept until the next winter).
I got this from http://www.sloe.biz/

No it's not a stupid question It tastes more fruity rather than flowery.and really pleasant at least the home made sloe gin is. If you want to make some, find a jar or something with a wide opening. Pick a lot of sloes "depends on the size of the jar you intend to fill"use a Sharp fork and pierce the sloes |"this will allow the juice to come out into the gin"fill the jar but not quit to the neck with the sloes then fill with good quality gin, Leave for at least 3months to get the full flavour of the fruit.Drink and be merryPS(You will have to sweeten to suit your own taste buds)

yes, prick the berries. 100g of caster or superfine sugar for each pint of sloes and fill the jar with gin. after jar is sealed turn it over to mix the ingredients and store in cool dark place. turn everyday for 2 weeks then do this every other week for at least 3 months or longer if you want a richer and deeper taste. you should get a deep ruby red gin after. pour liquer and just discard the berries.
