I do not believe in reincarnation. Heaven and hell are real and do exist. What does the Bible teach about death? Let's examine it and see:
There are many Scriptures that help us to see what happens to us when we die.
Animals and people experience the same thing as stated at Ecclesiates 3:19,20--"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again."
Psalm 146:4--"His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish."
Eccl 9:5--"For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten." (This means that people still living cannot help those who die, they cannot reward them and eventually the memory of those who die are forgotten. They are not forgotten by God though for he holds all those who die in his memory and soon all will be resurrected back to life. The fact that we do not dwell on those who die is helpful so that death is not something thought about constantly, for if that were to happen, who could stand the pain of losing loved ones? God helps us to cope with our sadness this way. )
Eccl 9:10--"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."(This also helps us to see that the dead feel neither pain nor pleasure)
Death is likened to being asleep. Psalm 13:3--"Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death."
Because of Jesus sacrificing his life for us, death is a temporary condition and many who are now sleeping in death will be brought back to life here on earth. Jesus himself will do this-- "I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. "Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—"(John 5:25-29) NIV
In the Bible hell is the grave and soon both hell and death itself will be put out of existance.
"The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath."--Proverbs 15:24
"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death."
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."--Revelation 21:4

After death comes another birth. It may be in hell, in heaven or on earth. It can be in the body of human, demigod, animal, plant or acquatic. It depends of the activities and the consciousness of the person during his life in this human body.
Reincarnation is not a beleive, it is a scientific process of transmigration of the spirit soul through different types of material bodies (8 400 000 in number throughout the Universe). This is confirmed by Lord Krishna Himself, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, in a book called "Bhagavad Gita", or "Song of God". There in verse 13 of the Second Chapter the Lord explains: " As the conditioned soul continually passes from boyhood to youth and from youth to old age, similarly the soul enters another body at the time of death. A sober person is not disturbed by such a change."
Hell and heaven do exist. This are different regions in the Universal structure. Pious go to heaven and sinful go to the hellish planets. This is decided by higher authorities.
There is another option and this is breaking through this cycle of repeated birth and death. It is called liberation and is achieved by spiritual practice. The most fortunate achieve this goal. It is not possible without the grace of the Lord.

I really don't buy into the heaven/hell thing,, but despite logic, reason and common sense I really think there is something beyond the physical,,

What exactly??

Now that is the question isn't it.

Reincarnation is no more or less possible than any other idea out there.

If anybody really thought about what infinity means, they would realise that eternal consciousness would be hell by definition. The Christian heaven would be, by definition, hell, if it were eternal.

I believe that we cease to exist, and that oblivion is by far the best of all the alternatives.

specific, i think of we do come back. many of the worldwide's religions, at one time or yet another, have featured reincarnation as an issue-unfastened guideline of the religion. For the 1st 500 years of Christianity's life, reincarnation grew to become into an familiar thought. whilst Jesus first regarded interior the land and commenced preaching, the folk asked him if he grew to become into the only that grew to become into Elijah till now.

Deaf is absence of life. Jesus referred to death as a sleep. When Lazarus died, He told His disciples that Lazarus fall asleep. He didn’t say Lazarus in heaven. See John 11:11-14. Over 50 times Bible compares deaf as a sleep. Christians go to heaven after resurrection from the death at last day. See I Thess.4:15,16. Martha, one of Jesus followers, understood it correctly. See John 11:24.

Hell described in the Bible in the book of Revelation as a lake of fire, where wicked will be consumed by fire for eternal destruction. Sometimes Bible refers to the term hell as a grave. I recommend you to read the book by Mark Finley 'The Next Superpower'. Part of the book deals with explanation what and where is hell. This book full of illustrations, charts, and images on every page, you will find many other Bible topics in easy to read, down to earth stile.

I'm a Reincarnationist. It's not belief; I know positively we reincarnate, but those who haven't had this experience have no way of relating to it and generally emphatically deny it.

What comes before birth? Same thing. Nothing. No consciousness, no life. You are life, when you are not, you are not. What you wish for has nothing to do with what is.
