I don't know!! That is a tough one for me! I like the first or second one I did.

I don't see any need for a comma. You are not stopping the flow of the sentence at any point or making a list of stuff. If anything, an exclamation point after swoosh:
'swoosh! was the sound of the water swirling out of the pan'

Now, if the water were not swirling out of the pan but something else ... like a snail then you would have to break the sentence somewhere like:
'swoosh! was the sound of the water, swirling out of the pan a snail heard it.'

i personally would place two for effect of sound after swoosh and after water.

I'm not sure, but I think it'd probably go after water.
