you have to wait until the lane markings before you move over. You cannot ride down the median to get to the left turn lane.

At the most, until it is broken by an intersecting road or turn lane coming from the opposite direction. If you cross over the break, you've left the lane and are now driving into opposing or crossing traffic.

The law in NC reads what ever is reasonable. So basically, if you drive 2 miles in the center turn lane then that isn't reasonable but 200 feet sure no problem.

As long as you need to in order to make a protected left turn. If you pass someone or use it as a travel lane - someone will pull you over at some point.

depending on the time of day and traffic, normally its about 5 car lengths. Drive any further and you risk getting a ticket for improper passing.
