Simply put, why is it you see the glass as half-empty?

Elaborate if you will please. Thank you.

I think of myself as a realist. Others may perceive that as pessimism. But I am different in different situations - in work situations, I may tend toward the negative side (because I KNOW that's how things go), and in other areas, I can be a Pollyanna. Although truthfully, that attitude might have more to do with my not wanting to believe something bad is going to happen.

I usually describe myself as an optimistic pessimist. I assume the worst (to be safe), but hope for the best.

As for why - that's just how I am. I couldn't trace it back to a particular situation or anything.

I used to be an optimist, a long long time ago. I think that simply experiencing life and its disappointments, and seeing the things too many people are capable of doing to others, has turned me into the somewhat jaded person I am now. Sad, I guess.

I feel the half glass empty because I expected it to be full.

Simply put, the glass is. I don't feel the need to lie to myself in order to make myself feel good. Once we start lying to ourselves, we lose all perspective.

Simply put, if I set my expectations lower, I don't run the risk of being disappointed.

Sorry but to me it is yet both full, and half empty, because there is much to learn from both

It's kind of like a car accident you know it's going to hit you and there is nothing you can do about it. It's out of your control.

Just waiting to pick up the pieces and hope there are piece to pick up.
