I am a Neuromuscular Therapist.
Instead of masking the pain with meds you should be concentrating on determining what's causing the pain in the first place. It may be as simple as correcting your posture, daily stretching, nutrition or reversing the effects of a past injury. Pain is your body's warning system telling you something is wrong and you need to change it. Ignoring or numbing the pain does nothing to correct what's causing it. The problem will only get worse and more expensive to fix if you ignore it.
Pain that comes and goes is most often caused by overly tight muscles, which can be corrected and released with quality deep tissue/structural massage therapy. Allowing these tight muscles to remain untreated often leads to more serious conditions, such as trigger points, chronic joint pain, herniated discs and arthritis. A penny of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Go to a specialist like a Neuromuscular Therapist or Rolfer. They'll be able to identify and correct the cause of pain and teach you to avoid it without using drugs or possible future surgery.
I've treated many people in my practice who could have avoided much pain and monetary expense by simply seeking help when they first experienced pain like yours. But, like you, they chose to ignore and mask the pain, allowing it to worsen for years, before finally seeking help. What started as a very simple and easy-to-fix cause of pain eventually became more serious because they didn't correct the problem immediately. Please don't make that same mistake.

Percocet (oxycodone) is a little stronger than Lortab (hydrocodone).

Why don''t you find out what is causing the pain and deal with that instead of drugging yourself into silliness.

why don't you find out what is really wrong with your back? don't take meds until u know for sure that it's a long term thing?
maybe you have herniated disks? that's serious if u don't be careful.
