Why not say thaoism? They have a book full of exiting stories which also give you guidelines too! Why Christianity? I'm guessing that you've prayed and some of the things you've asked for have come through, and maybe you've "felt" his presence, much like the people from the other religions. Perhaps people simply need to believe? But how can you? I want to believe, but theres so many things about the whole religious thing that is just strange, like the things i've mentioned. Please convince me otherwise!

Joe U. Thats great! But what about the Christians in Africa who eat for half a buck a day! Does God like you better than them , or how can you seriously that God helps just some people, but never in a way that simply have to be a miracle? The Bible is "based" on crazy miracles!

I can tell you only from my personal viewpoint. I have experienced the power of God in that I was rescued from alcoholism 'in a flash' as some say.
I was a beer for breakfast, fifth of whiskey per day person. I drank from the time I was about 15 until my rescue at age 47. The last few years of my habit were as described, beer for breakfast..sometimes whiskey and a fifth a day; more if I wanted to get drunk.
I had reached bottom, was losing my home, my family. I had no money, a minimum wage job that I showed up for a couple of times each week. Village drunk is the best term.
I found AA to be a bunch of malarkey but the one thing that they have right is that a person is powerless.

I finally asked Jesus for help. There was no blinding flash of light or falling down and getting up as a 'religious' convert, just went to sleep. The next morning, I had no hangover so I didn't need that breakfast drink. All that day I did not need the drink that I had been using.

I've tried the 'cure' a couple of times since and found that I can indeed have a social drink and stop there. In fact, I had one just a year or so ago.

Freed from a heavy addiction overnight. THAT'S power.

As a bonus, He also took cigarettes away. No problem there, either. Just didn't want them anymore. From 3 pack/day to 0, overnight.

That's why I am a Christian. I asked Jesus to help and He certainly did, in return asking only that I spread the word.

11 years clean and sober.

Addendum: No, God does not 'like' me better than anyone else. I'm guessing that my story is possible because He wants me to tell it. The Christians in Africa who are eating on half a buck/day may also have stories for you. I don't know. What I do know is what I told you is the story of _my_ life up until now.

The life & person of Jesus Christ fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies of the coming Messiah. He died on the cross to redeem humanity and rose again to show us death could be defeated. These events were witnessed and well documented. I have done a lot of reading about other "religions" but found them all lacking. Only the Gospel reconciles humanity to God through His infinite Grace. Faith is a gift of the Holy Spirit. When you except Jesus Christ as your Savior and are Baptised the seeds of faith are planted.

While I am sure people of other faiths "feel" something, I highly doubt it is God. Satan will do anything to keep us from knowing the truth including pretending to act in the name of God. The Bible warns us to beware the false prophet. Islam is a prime example of this. Their prophet was a murdering pedophile but they hold him up as an example of morality to be emulated. Their's is an ideology devoid of compassion while Jesus Christ was a model of mercy and compassion. The reason Christianity is oppressed and even outlawed in Muslim countries is that the darkness fears the Light of God but people are drawn to it. Islam would die out if Christianity were openly preached.

I wasn't born into Christianity, nor do I see any evidence that it's popular to be involved in any religion. Our world and society tend to look down on spiritual things.

Christianity is different because it involves a relationship with an acutal being. Many other "religions" are really just philosophies. There's no interaction with God. Once you've experienced God, it would be hard to go back to looking for anything else. Once you encounter the truth, why would you continue to look?

It's a decision you have to make for yourself. I chose Christianity because I was raised in it, and now that I'm an adult, I see that it is the Right choice. I'm not familiar with thaoism, sorry. Yes, I have had answered prayers, but I also have unanswered ones. I feel there is so much evidence for Christ, you just need to know where to look. I don't know you, so I don't know what it would take to convince you. I couldn't convince you, anyway. It has to be a decision you make. Here are some links and some books that might help.

Well, Jesus came back from the dead, so he must know something that no other religious leader knows. Every other founder of every other religion is dead and stayed dead.
Jesus came back from a tomb that had a complete Roman guard, sealed with a two ton stone, and showed himself to over 500 witnesses to prove that he was alive again.

Most of the apostles were willing to be tortured to death rather than recant their story that they saw Jesus alive again. I would think that if they were lying, then they would change their story to save their own life.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
....The resurrection of Christ was the legitimate climax to his unique life and death. He foretold his resurrection to his disciples directly (Mt.16:21) and to others through parables (Mt. 12:40).

Frank Morrison, a British lawyer of the 1930s, undertook an expedition to collect circumstantial evidence to disprove the resurrection. Such evidence, of course, is admissible in all courts of law in civilized countries to prove or disprove events of which there are no living eyewitnesses. When he analyzed the evidence, he reached a stunning conclusion: The resurrection had actually taken place! Morrison presented his case in his book, "Who Moved the Stone?"

Another factor worth considering is the character of the disciples. They were eleven cowardly men who shut themselves in a room after the crucifixion because they were afraid. Yet what galvanized them into action so that within their own lifetime, much of the then known world could hear the message of Christ? Some of them paid for this message with their lives. Would they have done so if the resurrection were a hoax?...

Wow "kindness" "t_a_m_i_l" and "teeny" pretty much summed it up. God chose me to be one of His children. I chose to accept the gift of His Son's sacrifice for the forgiveness of my sins. I accepted Him into my life. He is always there for me, even when I drift away from His path.
Yes, I was raised in the Christian faith - but as an adult, I have made my own decisions and have changed denominations based of "their" teachings until I found one that was true to His Word both in it's message and it's works.

Actually, I tried Wicca before I went back to being a Catholic. Being Catholic felt right and I found that my luck changed once I was confirmed. When I was a Wiccan, I was miserable, in a bad relationship and felt like my life was spiraling out of control. I feel like I was shown that my faith is the right one.

You wanna try a religion with a rational basis? Try Deism.

One side note, people say Deists must believe in an inactive God. This is not true. Deism is simply the belief in God based upon Reason rather than Revelation (Revelation=words or stories or customs, etc, that supposedly come form God).

You are absolutely right - the majority of people are sheep and just follow the herd. But, there are some of us that have studied a good deal of the world religions and feel that Christianity is a good one. There are yet others that have a good deal of faith in this religion. It is a good point you have, but it is not the only one.
