I do not remember Blair receiving this medal. This whole war was based, from the beginning , on misguided and inappropriate information. Bush is as wily as a fox and Blair not as wily but a follower.
B&B can pin medals on eavh other till the end of the year. Both have contributed to the deaths of many of their country's citizens. The Americans never expected to take a Vietnam-style walloping again. The Brits never expected that either.
I say keep the medals in memory of of a stupid decision and show it of to the people of the UK with rightful shame.

The award isn't advised by way of the President. He would not know the specifics of each engagement. the advice for the award comes from the soldier's chain of command and is supplied by way of the President interior the call of Congress. the militia performs an exhaustive analyze into the movements of the guy and determines despite the fact that if or no longer the medal is warranted in step with a stringent set of standards. despite the fact that if that's, a checklist is written detailing the specifics of the incident. This checklist is upchanneled interior the direction of the ranks of the command shape and is finally authorized or disapproved by way of a militia board. as quickly as that occurs, it strikes up interior the direction of the government (beginning with Congress) to the Joint Chiefs, SECArmy (or despite the fact that branch the guy is with), SECDEF, and finally to the President. If the President denies a Medal of Honor after that lots approval, it could make information via fact somebody at some point could leak it to the clicking. Bush held the militia interior the utmost regard, so if he did no longer award a medal to a living soldier, then an award for a living soldier by no skill crossed his table. What President does no longer prefer the prospect for that style of image op? So, its no longer a rely of Obama liking squaddies greater, its merely success of the draw via fact the final public of CMHs are provided posthumously besides.

I don't know why he would receive a medal for doing as he was told. He is afraid to have an opinion contrary to George Bush. Even the best of friends and married couples disagree from time to time. This phoney yellow belly is a regular "YES" man if ever I saw one. I simply have no respect for the man.

He DID NOT receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. He's not even eligible. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom or some such thing.

The medal of honor would not be, nor can it be awarded to a politican. This medal is awarded for courage and actions on the field of battle, and many times posthumously. The medal you may be confused about, is the medal of freedom.

CMOH, is not awarded to non Combatants, and therefore would not have been given to his tonyness.
CMOH, or the British Version the Victoria Cross is difficult enough to win as a soldier in a theatre of conflict let alone as a greaser politician.

I don't think he ever recieved it, and no he shouldn't give it back
( if he ever does recieve it) Tony Blair deserves the medal. It took alot of guts for him to stand up and support the US. It could've cost him the election, and it did cause him to lose support from colleagues and others (leading to his decision to step down before the next general election). America will always remember and be grateful for his support.
