Just because it's not right for you, doesn't make it wrong. There is a difference between sharing your beliefs and trying to shove them down the throats of others!

You are right. The world is full of dangerous idiots. There are many people whose beliefs are simply unsupportable. Is the question "what should you do?"
Obviously, the only way for Osama bin Laden and the Pope to know that they are idiots is for you to tell them. Once you have told them that they are idiots, they will realize that you are right and they will change their ways.
Respect is only for losers who don't know how to spell the word "idiot".
Do me one favor, though. Don't ever become involved in an actual situation with an actual dangerous person. You will get people killed. You are too honest to be a good negotiator.
But you won't listen to me, will you? I'm just another idiot. The world is your mirror, Bro. If you look into the world and you don't see anything but idiots, you have to wonder about the eye of the beholder.

I understand what you are saying, but I also see that you are lumping the whole group(s) because of the actions of some. I don't respect Fanaticism because of the things you have listed here... but I know people within those religions that are deserving of respect. I think this type of thing is better suited for dealing with individuals, rather than trying to place the whole group into a neat package so we can hang what emotions we want to on the whole group. I don't care for many of the Christians I have come across online... they show no tolerance, compassion yet demand respect. Those type of people get on my nerves. Yet again, my own mom is a Christian... and she does not act that way.

To daisy:
Heh, I'd watch out if I were you. Calling Catholicism a dumb cult is just asking for flames.
But anyways...
I don't like their beliefs, but I respect their right to have their own beliefs. However, for me there is a line between having a personal belief and actually forcing a belief on others, which is exactly what those like bin Laden and those in the Spanish Inquisition did. People can believe what they want, but if they act on their beliefs and it encroaches on the rights of others, I think it's forbidden.

Because you are causing other people misery by not accepting that they have the right to believe whatever they want. I agree that the revealed religions cause a lot of misery, but we still need to repect people.

No one said anything about respecting others' beliefs, it is the person themselves you should respect. The vast majority of religious people are kind and peaceful, not vicious killers.
Disrespect for others will never lead to peace anywhere on earth. Look at what's happening in the UK and in France -- people are so paranoid about the Muslim community they are banning the clothing and Jewelry of "others."

"We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart." H. L. Mencken.
Admittedly this used to be easier to do before crashing planes into buildings and killing gay people became "faith based initiatives".
It is easier to respect the common ordinary Presbyterian because they now seem like a rock in a storm of rage and insanity.
I would still be willing to "respect" all "faith" in the HL Mencken sense, even to the extent of allowing people to mess up their own lives, as long as they would do me the simple favor of leaving me alone.

I know most of these people are twisted in a lot of ways. The arrogance of their beliefs is overwhelming. And to think they say it all with a straight face and clear conscience.

You don't have to respect their beliefs but you should at least try to respect their right to have those beliefs.
