as long as the bleeding has stopped, wash it well with warm water and mild soap (dove or ivory work best) using soap with perfume or dye in it could irritate the wound more.
after washing it-apply a thin layer of neosorin and wrap it up in a bandaid.
you can take ibuprofen for the pain. it also has an anti-inflammatory in it to reduce the swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
report to the emergency room or your family dr if:
-the wound has increased redness or swelling
-it begins to drain liquid that is yellowish-brown or green in color
-you suddenly develop a fever of 101.0 or higher
-you have red lines extending from your finger to the rest of your body (indicates infection in blood-need antibtiotics asap)
these are indications your finger is infected and you'll need antibiotics to treat it
good luck

If you have no associated musculoskeletal deformities, clean it with a mild solution of soap and water and leave it open to air.
If the staple is lodged in a joint and you suspect joint damage then it would warrant a visit to the ER or sick call to have it removed.
If it is a rusty staple then you may need a tetanus booster. I believe this is an immunization that is required for school-aged children, so it should be covered if you are in this age bracket.

Get it checked out by a doctor, while your at it get a tetanus shot if you haven't already. Those shots help in the future if you ever get cut by something dirty or rusty.
