I have heard of people claiming that they have had a Ping Anser that made the "ping" sound when the ball was hit. I have only heard a "ping" sound on the 1A model Ping putters & never on any Anser. My question is this, does any Ping Anser make the famous "ping" sound when a ball is putt?

brioma33,

This is an excellent question!

The answer is yes, some of the Ansers do make the 'ping' sound when hit. However none as pronounced as the 1A which is basically like a tuning fork!

I don't think Ping makes the Anser this way anymore, but if you look at some of the 'older' models on the bottom you'll see there is an undercut channel. This channel is what causes it to make the 'ping' sound.

I've been using one of the old Anser's for years, and I have lead tape on mine so it no longer makes the sound :( But it's still a great putter, I've never found a style of putter I like better nor one I putt as well with!

You'll notice that the most popular Scotty Cameron putters used by Tiger and some of the other top pro's, are just copies of Karsten's original design.

Truly a timeless putter and a piece of art as well (in my eyes at least!)

1966 at Solheim's garage in Scottsdale where he first started making the original Anser and Cushin putters prior to moving to Phoenix.
