Yoga is awesome not only for shedding pounds, but for relieving stress. I love yoga and just being there in the moment, concentrating on my form and breathing and at that time that is all that matters. You'd would be amazed how much a session makes you sweat. Not only that, but you will be so refreshed afterwards.

If you really want a class look into the local community college they offer PE classes. You'll pay a fee but it counts as college credit. LoOK for something that will keep your interest as well as keep your heart rate up.
Other people mentioned yoga and that ok but in my opinion if your looking for a way to shed some pounds you need to look for something with lots of cardio I look a boxing class once and loved it.
_Good luck

If you want to lose weight, /the/ most important part of whatever exercise you do is that you get your heart rate up, okay? It should be in it's 65-85% max range during your workout (so take 220 minus your age, then multiply it separately by .65 and .85 to get the range). Whatever you do, if your heart rate is in that range, you're fine. Just a note, yknow. So during class you can take your 15 second heart rate and multiply it by 4 and hope it's at least your 65% max.
Anyway, as far as what kind of class... it depends on what you want. Usually the gym offers TONS of classes and you can experiment with all of them. I've taken 'em alllll.
------------
*Step - Very fun, a little hard to keep up with at first depending if that's your thing or not.
*Kickbox Cardio - Amazing!!
*Body Works - More of a weight class than an exercise class, it can get your heart pumping because you do a lot of light sets with weights. Also, putting on a bit of sexy muscle can increase your metabolism.
*Boxing Ciruit - Never tried it, but if you like that sorta stuff, give it a shot. I used to take a regular boxing class at a boxing gym and it was an amazing workout.
*Pilates - This is laid back and won't get your heart pumping, but is harded than it looks. It'll put some muscle on your and make your body firm.
*Yoga - Won't help you lose weight directly, but you do strenghten your muscles and get flexibility
*Spinning/Cycling - LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Can get very addictive if you let it. It's riding the bike to music that has a good beat. You go fast, you go slow with heavy tight petals, you stand up, you sit down, it's a great variation.
*Aqua Workouts - Never tried it, but it looks like fun. Also it's great on your knees and joints. :P
*Hip Hop Class - Dancing hip hop to music. Awesome class, very fun if you like sancing.
*Salsa Class - Same, only dancing to salsa music.
------------
So, those are all the classes MY gym (LA Fitness) offers. Different gyms might have a better variety and different stuff. One IMPORTANT thing when it comes to classes: experiment with teachers. If you take spinning class with one teacher and HATE it, you may take it with another teacher and LOVE it. I can't tell you how much the teacher makes the class (they have their own routines and stuff all the time).
If you have a gym, there is no sense in not taking two or three different classes on a regular basis. Whatever you do take, make sure to switch up your routine every 2 weeks so that your body doesn't get used to it (then you lose less weight if it does).
Good luck and have fun!!!

Pilates is awesome for weight loss. Professional ballerinas do it and they are all incredibly fit and thin. I lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks doing pilates every day with no diet changes.

I think you should try everything. Ask your friends if you can visit their classes with them. Try karate, kickboxing, Pilates, yoga, swimming, try EVERYTHING. Eventually you'll find something you like.
