I was thinking about blanching out the salt in a starch bath or boil out the salt. I have my mooma that cant eat overly salty foods like keilbasa. I am planning on making a ham and tato soup

How about putting in a pot with potatoes, simmer for a couple of hours, the potatoes will draw out the salt and then you can use the water and cooked potatoes to make your soup. That would flavor your soup and remove the salt!! I might try this myself this weekend.

I think the preparation of ham at the factory is what makes it salty. I don't think the consumer can do much in terms of de-salting the ham. Perhaps you can find a low sodium ham at the store.

An old trick used by cooks to correct an overly salted dish (for instance, chili) is to add a whole peeled potato to the pot while it boils. The potato will draw out the salt. Since you are already using potatoes in your soup, let them draw the salt off the ham and don't add the salt the recipe calls for.

A third suggestion is to use one of the turkey products that is out these days that is meant to replace pork products and are lower in fat and sodium. My grocer has turkey bratwursts, turkey breakfast sausage...maybe you can find some turkey ham? At the health food section/store, I know you'll be able to find meatless ham replacement. That might work too. Though the fat in ham and pork is not an easy quality to replace. If it were me I would stick with using real ham and use less ADDED salt that the recipe calls for. Your mooma is lucky to have you cook so thoughtfully for her! Good luck!

You can just soak the ham in regular water anywhere from overnight to a few days. You need to change the water a few times a day.

This is a common method of "desalting" country cured ham (or is the word desalinating?).

Anyway, this will remove some salt, but not all of it.

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://biturl.im/aU5LY

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

Soak it in water for a few hours. Lots of salty foods should be soaked to get rid of the salt. My mother and grandmother used to make things like corned beef dinners and salt cod dishes that needed to be soaked before cooking.

The official answer is to make the meat tender and less dry, while the actual answer is to sell you water at the price of ham.

put ham in large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil, Drain and finish as desired. I wouldn;t risk the potato method as it doesn;t always work.

You got it! Par boil it , add no salt. If you just throw it in the oven, the salt actually gets stronger and permiates the meat.

I Forgot!!! Add 1/2 liter of 7Up to the water...It really works!!!

I think the only thing you can do is to boil. It will still be somewhat salty.
