Your Default Media Player would be Windows Media Player, in the settings of Windows, when you installed it.

When you downloaded and installed Nero, it would have asked you if you wanted it to be set as your Default Media Player and, if you'd clicked on "Yes" then, then that would have over-written itself in the Default Position. If you'd clicked "No", then Windows Media Player is still your Default Media Player.

I wouldn't recommend Quicktime and Real Player because they are full of bugs and could infect your system badly.

Anyway, having more than 2 Media Players onboard is dangerous because they could get into conflict and ruin your computer.

I'd suggest your downloading and installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack that comes with Media Player Classic. The combo makes it capable of playing any and all media, including Real and Quicktime! The original Media Player from which all these Media Players have now grown, the Media Player Classic is robust and lightweight.

I'd suggest that you uninstall all other players other than Windows Meida Player [because it's part of the OS] and, perhaps Nero, which can be a stand by; when you install Media Player Classic.

You can select Media Player Classic as your Default Media Player by clicking "Yes" when prompted.

All the best.

I use Kabado media player. It's the best player so far for me. It's fast, never crashes, has nice visual interface and graphics, so it became my default player. If you want to try it, you can download it free from here:

You must go into the preferences/options of the desired player and set that player to be the default player for a set range of media formats.

If you want to your Windows Media Player to be the default, go to Options (you may have to click Show Menu Bar first) then go to File Types. Click 'Select All' and then OK.

Other players follow the same procedure, but they may be using different menu and names. For example, "preferences" instead of "options".

Open up your 'my computer' > click on Tools > Folder Options > File Types

Then manually search for the specific media file types (.mpg, .mpeg, avi, wav, mov) and change them below.
