It is how the child's body processes the food that determines not only if they get fat, but how they sleep. I think both are caused by something else, but that "studies" link them as if one was the cause of the other.
The probable cause in my opinion is hyperinsulinemia. This can be caused by genetics, but can be aggravated by poor food choices. The higher the sugar content of the food (or the higher the glycemic value) the more likely the food is to cause or aggravate hyperinsulinemia. Conditions caused by hyperinsulinemia include hypoglycemia (www.hufa.org) and diabetes.

Actually, I started putting on weight when my babies were born. I had so little sleep I had no energy to move around. So I can see, that together with overeating, it would add to the problem.
I think it's a very interesting bit of research.
Also, lack of sleep makes me tired and irritable. So I obviously need more feelgood hormones.

Another bogus scientistific theory to generate federal research money to keep them employed. Your right it's junk food, lack of exercise, yet the number one reason is genetics.

no u are right but also you initial question seems logical 2. ya see if your not sleeping well ur tired and if your tired your body will store more of its food as energy too keep you up and about, also ur body digests food quicker wen ur asleep , i dont think this is a proven theory but it seems a logical one

Kids who sleep less are up all night playing computer games, eating crisps and drinking juice, hence are fatter than their sleepy counterparts who get up and walk to school.

Actually, I is probably true. If you don't get enough sleep your body doesn't work right. You don't digest correctly, and you are sluggish. So you don't exercise enough. Leading to obesity and other problems.

makes sense - the more time you are awake the more opportunity to stuff your face.
